I am just about ready to drop the hammer on a BA TAC. I am undecided on whether to get the standard CG or the thicker LM. It will be a user.

I love the thinkness of my NO-E but arppeciate the thinner profile of my CG SJ TAC as well. What would you guys say the pros and cons to each would be. I'm not asking which would be better for me but simply for pros and cons in your opinions. Thanks.

The other LEs fit my hand very well -- I like those magnum handles.

If it's dedicated as a user, it should be as comfortable to use as possible.

You could get the magnum handles on the standard if that is the blade thickness you like. If you want the thicker blade and satin go with the LE.

I ordered both but plan the use the standard, I may call and change it and add mags. Or just get another with mags. These are tough decisions.

I'm not a real fan of the LE slabs, so I go with CG. I'm not a big fan of coatings, so I strip them. I use the crap out of them, so I buy Busse. ;)
I don't know what's important to you, but as we both know, you can trade or sell to try another. I like the thinness of the TAC style, and the only thing I would have asked to be different is an offering in Double Cut and Black & Tan.;)

I LOVE bare metal knives. I'm not a big fan of coatings. So thats probably the biggest attraction to the LE.
I'm really thinkin about pullin the trigger on a CG because of its thinner profile. But I just don't like the thought of the blade coating. I could always strip it and shine 'er up though...  :D

Looks are definatley not a big part of what I consider when I buy. However, my users sure are purty. I'm not concerned at all with the coating as all my knives get used to the point where I eventually strip them and either give them a satin finish or have them BB/DCBB.

To clarify I am asking as to the pros and cons regarding function due to thikness of stock. Not looks as they all end up looking the same in the end. :p I almost always go CG for this very reason.

Where do you send you blades to be BB/DCBB? Do you do it yourself?

I think it boils down to comfort as well. Jerry has said he uses the same primary grind angle on the different thicknesses of each model. The thinner stock ends up being saber ground since it runs out of steel and the thicker model, usually LE's are full flat at the same angle. They should be the same in terms of slicing until whatever you are cutting is deeper than the primary grind on thinner stock where there could be no additional friction on the blade...thicker stock/full flat is still getting thicker in the cutting substrate at that point.

Well, I guess I am not suited for this, since I haven't used an LE. I would assume that, for me at least, the LE would be more important in the larger blades. Since my use is of a more aggressive nature with them. In a blade the size of the SJTAC or BATAC, the thicker stock doesn't feel like, to me, that it warrants the cost increase. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but the only reason I see ordering the LE is for looks or prestige. If I could afford them, I might have an entirely different opinion.;) :D

I ordered a CG with mags, because the only thing I dislike a little about my SJT is the thin scales. That's why I'm really psyched about this one. While I have a few blades that are 1/4" thick and less than 6", I really like the thinner stock of the SJT for general use, and the mags fix the handle problem.

I'm in the same boat as MMIAM, though, since I don't have an LE to compare. If I did... :D

I'd agree with the guys above... I actually liked the blade profile of my CG SJTAC best, but the handle feels SO much better on my HOGSJTAC LE... If yo really don't care about aesthetics, get the CG w/Mag handles

I ordered standard with magnum handles, because I thought that would provide the best combination of comfort and cutting ability.

And Les are just cool, despite being a bit thick for a knife this size.

Whatever you get, get what colors you like!
Spend the extra cash on getting the knife YOU want, or you'll probably regret it later. I have a HOFSH that I went back and forth on deciding whether to get the green linen vs. the black. I'm happy I made the right choice because the knife was made for me, and is what I picked because that's what I wanted. Anything else might have ended up as trading fodder.
Go with your gut!

I went with an LE 'cause I ain't got one yet! It looks purty, but I may make my M6 the user in this size.
