I used to swear that these clocks were tornado proof. Well after years and years of service I had one die on me. I replaced her with a new one. It looked almost the same except for the position of the "settings" on the back.
This thing is a piece of crap! I did'nt know that Westclox sold the company to someone or some other company who is cutting corners "cheapened" things up. They are not what they used to be.
My question to you fellow gadget nuts is, who is making a comparable windup alarm clock similar to the old Baby Ben?

They were tornado proof. I had one in VN in 1967 that went thru a cyclone. My radiotruck didn't fair as well.
Can't help you though on today's "Bens".

I had the same experience you did. Bought mine in Panama in the late '60's, and used it faitfully for about 30 years. When it finally died I got another one, and it was junk. Didn't ring as loudly, didn't keep time well, died in a few years. Now I use my old pager as an alarm, set on vibrate only. Works for me...
