I have an 18 inch Baby Ganga Ram Special on its way to me that Uncle Bill had on sale. It will be about another week or so before it arrives. I bought it because the shape of the Ganga Ram appeals to me and because this one weighed in at only 23 ounces. My fetish at the moment is for khukuris that I can wear on my belt all day without having numerous accidents that cause my pants to fall down. I also believe that anything over 18 inches would probably be too long for daily carry. Surprisingly, when I did a search on the Baby GRS, there appeared to very littly written about it. I would love to hear some opinions about this khukuri from someone who owns one.

Glenn that's really strange, but it's probably the way the search feature works.
I've searched for several different items at time where I knew there were several threads about what I was searching for, but either nothing or not much turned up.

I've spoken quite a bit myself about the BGRS. It's right up there with my YCS, Chitlangi and steel mounted 17" village khukuri in being a favored one to use and to carry around.
Like the other khuks mentioned the BGRS cuts like a much heavier khuk to me and like its big brother has a tendency to strike exactly where you've aimed it instead of being anywhere from a 1/2" to 2" off!!!!
The BGRS was a "must have" for me and I'm still very pleased with the way it's worked for me in the past.
I would have to go back and do some searching myself, but I'm sorta thinking my BGRS was among the ones used by my wife Barb, sis Kathy and myself when we were cleaning up som small timber cut down on her place quite a while back, but I'm not for certain the way my memory is anymore.
The BGRS is one really nice khuk and one you definitely won't be sorry you added to your collection.
Let us know what you think about it when you get it and then a field report of how many 40 acres of timber you single handedly cleared in one day with it.;) :D

I love mine! It is one of my "good looking" khukuris so I have not used her yet and probibly never will. If I was going off to war I would not hesatate to take her though!

I got one quite a while ago that was made by Jag and Prem, IIRC. It isn't too big, and cuts superbly. I used it on some oak trees that had been cut and left for sometime. It was able to cut through branches up to about 1" diameter in one stroke. The BGRS really is a great knife, and I'd recommend it as a great working khuk. :D

Thanks to everyone for your replies. Yvsa, you were right. I did a search again using BGRS instead of the full name and got some more threads, including a very good general one by you dated 09/29/01. I would recommend that thread for all beginning khukuri owners. I'm still very 'green behind the ears' when it comes to the Cantina, but I am beginning to work out who the 'old timers' (excuse that term) are who know what it was like to be a beginner khukuri owner like myself, what's the saying - "been there done that". Like you, my purchases are already ending up in the hands of my family. My 16 year old daughter took my first khukuri (a 15 inch khukuri) and has no intention of ever giving it back. Then my 20 year son paid me a visit during a break in his University studies and fell in love with and took my second khukuri (an 18 inch World War II). I have two more on transit from Uncle Bill (a 15 inch Chiruwa AK and the BGRS). I know I will be giving one to another son who is in the Australian Defence Forces - which one I won't know until they arrive. I can tell you I will likely be buying another within the next few weeks, but I then have to cool it for a while or my wife might use one of my khukuris on me - that darned HI virus is hard to shake. The worst part is that I think I have passed it on to my own offspring.

The BGRS was my first and it is a very fine chopper! I started collecting last spring and let me warn you the effect of HIKV is cumulative! If you manage to hold on to more than one and start piling them up you will soon find yourself more and more obsessed. Every time you examine your collection you will start thinking, what would this blade be like the length of that blade with the handle of this one and.......;) :D

Pat: I'm with you, brother!

Where are my manners? Welcome to the cantina, Glenn!

The BGRS is my favorite lopper and chopper. My particular one was made by Durba and is right at 2 lbs. Yvsa's observations on it nudged me to get one, and he was absolutely correct. I have a little harder time, accuracy wise, with the AK design, but the BGRS hits exactly where I aim it. On one chopping spree, I hit the same cut 6 times in a row. Coincidense? Luck? Just Centuries of Knife making expertise manifesting itself! What a great design!

Trust me, I'm not that coordinated, but the BGRS is a very natural user for me.

Somehow...I don't think you'll be disappointed!
