Baby Huey needs a blade

Hello all. First time caller, long time lurker. I got dubbed "Baby Huey" for my uncanny ability to break crap you're not supposed to be able to break with your hands..Hence my problem. I'm topping my budget out at $450 just to get that out of the way.

I need/want a larger, thick blade (min of 7" and .20 at least). Big guy, big hands and I just feel more comfortable with a larger tool (there was absolutely no better way to put that...lmao)

I'm looking at mostly bowie style blades for obvious reasons. Muela, Buck, Blackjack,Bark River...etc but I'm not limited to that style. I just need some guidance. If that means pointing me in the direction of a custom smith, I'm fine with that too. I'm in no hurry. This won't be an edc blade (even though you can in Texas) but will be my primary blade anytime I'm somewhere there's the danger of not being able to get a cheeseburger.

Please don't turn this into a "you can't do that with that knife" kind of thread. Ever seen someone sculpt with a chainsaw? This will be a bush/survival/can't carry a sidearm/f'ing bear spray didn't work kinda knife.

I'm eager to hear what y'all have to say. Anyone can learn with their eyes (which there's nothing wrong with), I've been researching for months. I really want to hear from people who have learned with their hands.

Appreciate y'all in advance.

You'll need to up your budget a bit to find one on the secondary market (though they come up often) but a CPK HD field knife sounds like the perfect option.

That said, if you do break stuff often, get a blade with a no questions asked warranty like from Esee or Busse. While not as thick as you are asking for, an Esee 6 with scales and sheath from TKC would be very nice.

I think I could build something in that price range. Screenshot_20180825-124430_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180713-102224_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180713-102253_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180925-092127_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20180925-092202_Gallery.jpg

CPM 3V or Z-Tuff can be used in this price range. But will likely max out your budget depending on some options. My books open early November.

If you can get a forum member to build you a custom to spec in your price range, sounds like a good idea especially in 3V. Then you can get exactly what you want to spec if you send them pictures and perhaps an idea of hand size. I have a few Bark Rivers in 3V in your size range and the price range is within reason for them but you could also look for a Busse Fushion Steel Heart in INFI or one of the Scrapyard larger offerings in Sr101, there are alot of options to either go prod or custom.

It sounds to me like you need a Becker Combat Bowie (9") or Combat Utility (7"). The Esee Junglas II would work, too.

Anything from Busse/Swamprat/Scrapyard knives should do you well. I'd look at a Busse Team Gemini if I was you. Also lots of knifemakers on this forum could hook you up.
