Tai and I did a bunch of finish hammering, straightening, etc., and filing the past two days. Today was rough sanding (again, by hand) and heat treating. We did an edge quench in veg oil. I got a snootful of smoke during the quench, not fun!
Here it is after a few quick dips in ferric chloride to bring out the quench line(s). Unfortunately my camera and lighting both suck, so I had the choice of either getting the quench line or the plunge/bevel line in the pic, but not both.
Tomorrow's going to be a lot of finishing and mounting. As Tai put it, "knifemaking, not bladesmithing."
By the way my official name for this is "Clip point recurve bowie fighter chopper camp knife". I'm trying to come up with something a little more catchy...
