Well I'm back after spending 9 days chasing Stone's sheep. The weather was awesome! Saw lots of mountain goats and some sheep - just none that were legal. Here are some pics:

wow.. awesome pics Bruce... nice to see you posting here... :) i would love to get out to the high country one of these days to do some bowhunting...

oh, and knife shots are usually mandatory...:D

As long as you had a good trip, it makes up for not getting that ram that you went for. At least a little.

That is SICK...man..I go on vacation in SEPT, and cant wait..just going to Maine, but that will do!!!!!

OK guys sorry about the lack of knife pics :o. Unfortunately I didn't get a ram so no action photos of caping and deboning!

Here is a pic a snapped of the knives I took with me (the top two - last one wasn't ready in time):

The top knife is a caper made by Darcy Ellis (one of my friends and the person responisble for getting me into this addiction!) steel is D2 and the handles are desert ironwood.

The middle knife is the second knife I made. The steel is from a sawmill trim saw blade and the handle is bocote. I need to start packing one of my newer, nicer knives but I'm kind of like this one too (used it last year to fully cape out & quarter a whitertail).

The bottom knife is a new caper that I was making for the trip but didn't quite get it finished - 1084 steel and figured walnut scales (the figuring shows up better once they are buffed). Might end up selling this one....

You are right about the golden eagles - we saw two up there!

Thank's for sharing all the Great picture's, That would be a Trip of a Lifetime for me, That Goat Herd Is a Good sized Herd, To bad you couldnt find a Legal sized Stone Sheep, What's the Law/Size Limit on taking a Stone Sheep ? And I like your selection of Knive's "Thank's for the picture & Info. on them"

Nice area Bruce, good to see you out. Loving the knife and firesteel, it has seen some kokanee and a few campfires and your right, it is a wicked slicer. feel free to attach the photo as I am too inept.

Great photos and a great post. Time above tree line is always an adventure. Hard on your body but great for the soul. Looks like a fantastic trip.

Snake Dr.: The legal size is full curl (horn tip over the nose) or 8 years old or older as determined by the annual rings on the horns. I guess I'm a sucker for punishment - this was my 7th trip and still no ram (I've shot a couple nice mt goats though!). Maybe next year...

PayetteRucker: I was hunting in northern British Columbia. You get the sheep down the mountain by lashing the tent, sleeping bag ect on the outside of the pack so that there is room for meat on the inside - then tie the horns to the top. I have an 85 litre LLBean internal frame backpack. Going up the mountain my pack was 65lbs (food, sleeping bag, tent, spotting scope, rifle, cape salt, ect). On one trip I got a goat and two of us split the meat and I took the cape and horns our packs were 98-100lbs.

Brad: Glad to here you are enjoying the knife! I'm heading out for sockeye this weekend!
Here is a pic of your knife when it was new:

Beautiful country. Wildlife always gets me excited. I even like to spot spermophiles.
