Back edge on new ESEE RC-3's useful or annoying?

So I am getting ready to pull the trigger on an rc-3 and I notice that some of the new ones have a sharpened back edge now? More useful in the field, or a hindrance in things like batoning?

Appreciate the feedback.

Definitely not suited for batoning, except maybe in an emergency when you don't mind dulling the top edge. Works great for shaving kindling, mag/ferro rod fire starters, puncturing/opening hide. Remember, the geometry of the top edge thikens out quickly, so while it is useful for light cutting/chopping, it will not slice like the primary edge. Also some legal concerns of having both sides of the balde sharp, depending on your location and licensing.

Unless you have some specific need or preference for a sharpened clip, go with the standard 3.

check to see if legal in your area, I would not mind owning a CP MIL version (Oneday) just for striking fire steel alone is worth it to me ... only reason I need to aquire CP version one day

I don't think the sharpened clips are better for woods use. I believe they would hinder that quite a bit. It would be good for a firestriker, but not much else.

Well, it will probably stab easier. But, other than that? Same as what was said before, good firesteel striker. They look great too.

Adds some combative options. I think this was intended for the tactical and Military market. Makes for a great smaller combative blade that would complete with Strider and some of the custom tacticals. I guess we all survive in different ways.

A sharpened back edge is the last thing I want on a blade for 'puncturing/opening hide'. A double edge is a complete waste of time if you are opening an animal in the view of skinning it, all you get is slashes in the wrong place. On the other hand, if you were after some kind of 'tactical/fighting' use then the above would probably be useful i guess. For a all round blade go with a standard single edge. For a fighter a bit more length on a purpose designed blade would be my choice but that is not the primary market I think ESEE are targeting, rather using knives that are used for boring old cutting tasks!
