Well, I just got back from a 4 day vacation at Moosehead Lake in Maine. We had an absolute blast! There were about 12 of us that went up, and we stayed on a 20 acre island that one of the people with us own a 5 acre lot on. We got on the island Thursday morning, and didn't leave until Sunday afternoon. (Except for some kayaking)

It ended up raining 2 of the nights, and we got a pretty bad thunderstorm for a few hours Saturday, but it was awesome! (Since I was the only one smart enough to bring a full set of rain gear ;) ) I ended up being in charge of the firemaking since no one else could get a good fire going since everything was damp. What made it better was that everyone couldn't believe I got fires going with nothing more than a firesteel and some PJ cotton balls (which is almost like cheating anyway)

I could've brought a bunch of different blades, but chose to bring a mud snake CGFBM, Crash Rat, and a Ranger RD6 from Justin. Out of the three, the FBM got used the most, followed by the RD6 and the CR. I found that there isn't much the CR (or any hatchet/axe) can do, that can't be done by the FBM. I was thoroughly impressed to say the least. There were a few outdoorsy guys that I introduced to the knives I brought, that were blown away by them. There were a couple axes and hatchets, and also a machete that a couple of the guys brought, and once they tried my knives, it was all over. We have some new converts!

None of them could believe that the blades stayed so sharp after all the chopping and cutting we did. (granted, there stuff has probably never been as sharp). They asked where they could get the knives/axe and how much. You should have seen their faces when I told them the prices! The said they would've been more careful had they known how expensive the stuff was! I just laughed and told them to do there worst. (Which they did- see pics :thumbdn: ) After the initial sticker price shock, a couple of them said they were gonna look into picking some knives up after using mine and hearing about the warranty and general toughness of the Busse family of knives.

All said and done, it was a great trip. The knives performed absolutely flawlessly and everyone with us had a great time. Hope everyone enjoys the pics!

PS- Anyone know how to straighten out the rolled parts on the blades without a steel? I was gonna use a stone, but I wanted to smooth the edge back out as much as possible without actually using a stone and grinding the edge away.

PPS-Mulder, thanks for the offer last week! Super gracious of you. If I wasn't with a bunch of people on an island, I would've taken you up on your offer. Me and the girlfriend want to get back up there again, just the two of us, so that may be a better time to get together and check some Busse's out.

And some edge damage. Not too bad though. I know the big ding in the FBM is from a nail I hit while batoning a piece of wood. The rest, I'm assuming is from rocks and dirt. I know that one of the guys used the CR to take care of some roots on a tree that he was taking down. The tree was dead, but some of the roots were still pretty convinced they were staying. I also caught one of the guys flipping the FBM in the ground when he was done chopping stuff.

Sounds like a great time!

You did warn them about the addiction...right?

Thanks for the great pics:thumbup:

It was a beautiful place. Less people and more time would have been ideal, but you take it where you can get it right? :D

nice pics,,beautiful boston terrier,,,mine is 14 years old,,great friend/dog

That's it. I'm keeping my tan/snakeskin FBM. I may use it tomorrow.

Dan,

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

Nice, you gave your blades a good workout!!
Some of those dings will come out with a ceramic rod if you don't have a steel.
Both are cheap.. Stroke away from the edge to lift the fold bach into place.

You have two knives and an Axe. They are all made of steel.

There is no excuse to leave those dings in the blade, but it's a great excuse to loose a little coating.

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought a few of you might enjoy the pics. I thought the sea plane taking off across the lake was pretty cool. It was the first time I saw one land and take off in person. :)

Wash- No way I'm leaving those dings in my babies! :D I was just wondering if there was an easy way to smooth them back out without losing some metal from the edge. The Crash Rat has a pretty good roll, so I'm pretty sure that'll have to be sharpened out. The FBM one's aren't too bad. Since I don't have a steel, I'll have to use one of my ceramic rods. I'll post some pics after the clean up.

OOoohhhhh....duh. Me special! (smacks forhead)

Sorry Wash, I didn't catch on to what you meant. I can troubleshoot and repair communications equipment, but can't read what's in front of my face! :p

(I feel really silly now!)
