I don't remember how but this kitchen knife lost its tip and the edge was beat to hell. I gave up on it for awhile and almost replaced it. When I got a Sharpmaker I thought of trying it on this blade but knew the damage was to much for the SM to handle.
Recently I got an Edge Pro and figured before I use it on my folders I'll test it on my beat kitchen knives. I did three and how crap they're actually able to cut (with ease now). This knife alone took over an hour but the end result was worth it.
I used:
120 for about 45mins to get the tip back
220, 400, 600, 1000, 2000 tape and 3000 tape
The start

This was 5 mins in

Maybe 20 mins in with 120 stone

All done, tip back. It's not the best but it's sharp and cuts with ease now.

It's even got some bling

I really like restoring tips like this. It's a really nice sense of accomplishment. Plus, the more you do it, the more of a sense of reshaping blades you get. Almost like knife making LITE. Super lite in fact. :)

It's definitely easier with a coarse, fast working abrasive. I love the WSKO for this type of task. The x200 Norax belt, running at 1/2 to 3/4 speed works just fast enough to easily see your progress, but not so fast that you easily make a mistake.

Single cut mill bastard file. They work well on most knives that aren't super-steels.
