Hey all. Thought Id share my recent spa experience. Its a bit of a mixed review, so let me start by saying that overall I am very happy with the returns from Buck. I sent in an old and broken 110 for a new blade and spa treatment. I sent in a broken 442 with hopes they would install a 50th anny 112 blade on it. I also sent in my daily user 722 Spitfire in for a factory sharpening.

The 110 came back beautiful. I wish I had some better before pictures. It was pretty nasty looking.

They re bladed the 442 with a 112 blade. Really cool of them. Not a 50th anny stamp, but an pretty unique knife none the less.

My Spitfire is my daily user work knife. I depend on it. I figured I'd send it in for a factory sharpening since I was already sending in these knives. On the repair form, I asked them to replace the nylon blade bushing that I lost.
Well, getting this knife back was a bit of a disappointment. This is how it was sent to Buck

When it returned, the knife was dirty. The handles were dirty and there were still very definitive marks on the blade, where I had last used it to sharpen a pencil. after a couple of days, I wondered how they could have taken this knife apart and not cleaned it in any way before working on it. I began to suspect that they didnt take it apart at all. So I wondered how they would have replaced the bushing without removing the blade. I took the knife apart to find that the knife in fact had not been cleaned at all (spa treatment?) and they did not replace the bushing. The cherry on top was the fact that the blade wasn't sharpened. It had been put to a grinder, but I don't think anyone looked at it afterward.

so... Bummer. Knives were gone for 12 weeks and 2 days. I did ass u me that being a custom knife, repairs would be done by the custom shop, no? Not sending this back to be corrected. I will take it to the guy in town who sharpens Mount Saint Charles' hockey skates instead. He'll do it while I wait and charge $5.

I was very happy with the rebladed knives and am very happy that is an option. A lot of companies would tell you to buy a new knife. Anyway, I always see people asking about the spa service on here, so this was my experience. -Ben

I'm really surprised Buck replaced the blade on the 442..They are easily damaged trying to pop out the old blade. Same situation with Bucklites. Since the Spitfire was not sharpened drop a line to Buck about the situation. Were you charged for it?

So I believe in making your own luck. I knew of that particular issue, so I drilled out the rivet myself. I wrapped the broken blade in a few layers of electrical tape, stuck it in a baggie with the handle and sent it off with a prayer... :D

Cool post. Always good to hear tales from the spa.

Regarding the Spitfire, why not just sharpen it yourself?

The 110 and 442 look really nice. Glad those were a success.

That is so disappointing about the Spitfire. They really dropped the ball on that one.

Thanks for the feedback.

It would be unusual for them to take it apart and replace parts without you asking for it? Have you contacted the warranty department?

Hey Benny.. I would call BUCK.. I had something similar with a 112 I sent in.. It was real hard to open.. They did the Spa but nothing with the blade when I got it back.. I called and the VERY nice lady on the phone sent me a return shipping lable thru email.. I boxed it up.. BUCK paid all shipping and took care of my knife NC to me.. It is perfect now..
Call.. Ya never know.. I think they will make it right..

I use this knife for work daily. I beat the hell out of it, for what it is. Normally I do sharpen it myself, but since I was sending the spas, thought it would be nice to have it factory sharp.

S Smitty0315 I had asked them to replace the blade bushing. That's why the one side of the knife is so messed up. No bushing. Upon further review, I realized I only pictured the one side of the blade in this thread... the other side still has a lot more cerakote.

jmh33 jmh33 I bet that they would, but for the $10 or whatever, I'd rather have the knife in my pocket. The 3 months it took got to be torturous at the end. Hahaha...

If you are reasonably proficient at sharpening, you are probably better off doing it yourself. The factory belt grinder will remove quite a bit more material than one normally would on stones. Plus I think I get it sharper doing it myself.

If you struggle to put a good edge on yourself. ( I did before, I got a guided sharpening system.) Then I understand wanting a factory sharp edge.
