My wife and I just got back from our US vacation. Went to New York and Belton, Missouri. And what knives did I get....

1) Spyderco Chinook II
2) Spyderco Ronin
3) Spyderco Centofante III
4) Spyderco Stretch
5) Cold Steel R1 Military Classic
6) SOG Desert Dagger
7) Gerber Harsey Air Ranger

Yep, I had fun! Most of this was bought from other collectors NIB. The Stretch was bought in a little place in Harlem NY called EZ Pawn. NY is not very knife friendly - the only other place I saw knives at was Paragon Sports, but they were a bit pricey. The Gerber was a gift from a collector from whom i bought several knives.

I also bought a Spydie Rescue Jr and Delica as gifts for relatives. And last of all, i brought in a Cold Steel Black Bear Classic for a buddy of mine.

It was a considerable sum, but much much less than what i would have paid in South Africa. On top of that, i had never seen a sample of any of the first four knives on this list, so imagine my joy :D This was a holiday of a lifetime. I told my wife I reckon i bought enough knives to last till the end of next year :foot:

Ag nee man boet, ek sien nie 'n Sebenza op jou lys nie :D

Just kidding. Cool that you had fun and got the knives you wanted

I got a Centofante III as my EDC, I think it's one of Spyderco's better deals, and it looks better than average, too. Congrats!

Cool purchases

I never buy anything in SA anymore .. they are WAY too pricy ... :fanfare: "praise be to the internet" :D

I converted after my last trip into "Sharp Edge, Sharp Shooter" in Sandton.

Joe, Sharp Edge is about the only decent place here, but most knives remain pricey. This is related to 20% import duties, shipping, insurance and a mark-up which must cover their overheads. That is where the joy of internet shopping comes in cause there are very low overheads. Internet shopping is big in the States and other countries, but not yet in SA. I just made good use of the opportunity while I was in the land of plenty with plenty of competition.

What could you have found of interest in Belton Missouri? Nothing against it, but it's quite a bit different than NY. I live in Kansas City, and Belton is the last stop on my way out of KC when heading south. There are several places to see and buy knives in this area, next time you're here. Glad you were able to fill your bags with cool goodies.

Daniel, my best buddy stays in Belton, which is why we went there. Bought stuff from collectors and over the internet. Only place where I saw knives was at Cabellas, which if I remember correctly was in Kansas.

There are several talented knife makers in and around the Kansas City area - WC Davis, Collin Cox, David Darpinian, Jerry Kennedy, and David Mosier. Tim Herman is in Overland Park and Steve Voorhis is in Inman, Kansas. Kansas City also has great Bar-B-Q.
