Im back home and Im sure glad of it. Had an aunt die unexpectedly, worst flights of my life, relative tenstions ran high and I stayed too long!

I was however able to visit that big shop in east Tennessee. I donated to the knife museum and got a great big ol book on how to spot counterfeit knives. Interesting that there are some things in the book that I hope are not correct, like when you see the pivot pin in the bolster on an old knife that looks correct...If the blade is tight and looks right to the knife I like to think that its a knife thats been tightened up via the ol vice trick and wasnt polished out well enough..but I digress.

The big shop in question had all these knife stamps that were used in catalogs to show "pictures" of the knives. They appear to all be old IXL and here are the three I got. Cant wait to get an ink roller and play around with them!

I also picked up a couple of knives. I forgot to bring the 7 Dot Case Muskrat to work today but I will tomorrow. Apaloosa bone, pristine and I got it from a great little shop in Kingston Tennessee, run by a fellow named Max. Great guy and also sells hand made rockers! (Got one for dear ol mom!)

The big shop near Sevierville had great prices on old Black Box Winchesters so I couldnt resist another med pattern congress in yellow bone. I also had my Radio knife waiting for me at my office. I have to say that this is the best bone GEC has ever done. I absolutely love it! They just keep getting better and better!

I thoroughly enjoyed the knife museum again and drooled over all the old traditionals that I will never have, but oh well, at least they are being preserved!

Was not my best visit to the state of my birth, lots of sadness but I allways love being in the south in the thick of all things traditional.

Happy New Year all!

Very sorry to hear about loss of your aunt.

Knife stamps are very interesting.
Really like to see how it will show up with ink.

My condolences to you, sorry to hear. I am glad that something bright came out of this. Visiting that museum is on my bucket list.

Condolences on the loss of your aunt.

You know what they say, you can't pick your relatives, but you sure can pick ... your knives! Beautiful congress, that yellow bone really shines.

Oh man, I am sorry to hear of your Aunt's passing

Great knife score, those stamps are something great in my eyes, an important part of the History of knives - and a perfect side-line attraction to a knife collection - I remember Brad scoring some of these a while too I think?
I have quite a few of the Winchester Black Box series- I think they are great knives - nicely made and great value for money ( they should really go for more )Dave..whats the year stamped on the Congress?

The Congress is stamped '96, so 1996.

A heavy and mixed journey for you, sorry about that.

But, some decent knife items. I'm eagerly and frankly impatiently awaiting my own Red Radio Knife here in Scandiland, your pix whet m'appetite considerably. Great knife, I'll give it a rub down with some fine grade paper and polish and that will give it the pocket nurtured look!

Thanks, Will

The jigging already looks like it has some age to it. Reminds me of old Schrade Cut Co peachseed. Nice luster and very well done...you will love it! I think Im going to collect this cover on GECs to come.

The pictures dont do it justice
