Hey Steve,

I hope you are on the mend and will be back to doing what you want (and your wife wants;))very soon.

I have been doing some cleaning and organizing recently and I came accross a spare sebeza blade I received with a knife I purchased a while back.

I think I'd like to work with you making it into a complete knife as it is pretty useless as is.

I do have a few ideas I'd like to discuss with you. Of course I am in no hurry, but I'd like to discuss and plan for when you are ready, willing and able as well as when my turn in line comes.

All the best,

-Todd

Its going to be a while but we can discuss it next year yes. I have a small Sebenza blade of my own (BG42) picked up from a member here and I planned to use it one day. Problem, as I found out with my own is the hole size in the blade. If you don't have the bushing for the blade it will be necessary to have one made. I had Reese Weiland make up one for my own. I do not recall the exact sizing. I figured that out from the hole size or something. Anyway, he made me up a bushing replacement to fit the blade. Without that I'm afraid using it will be quite difficult.

Interesting, I did not realize that was the case regarding the bushing.

I am away from home until the second week of January and I will see what I can do about either purchasing one or designing and having one made when I get back.

In the meantime what I am thinking about is the following:

A liner lock. The thing I wanting to do different is to have a "tail" on the liner that bends and makes into the clip. So, the liner and clip is all one piece.

Of course the bend would need to be more generous to allow for the scale. Other than that I can't see any other issues, can you envision any problems with this idea?

I have some titanium on hand that can be used fo this project.

Please let me know your thoughts regarding this.

can you envision any problems with this idea?

Yeah I sure can. For one I don't have the means to fold over a piece of titanium much wider than the widest pocket clip I make which is the Spyderco Millie and Para Mil clip.

Once titanium gets up to wider pieces it increases the risk of tearing many times over. I fear it would be a futile effort after a lot of work to lay out all the ground work for the liner. All the holes, threading, and so on would have to be done when it can still be laid flat on a table. The clip would be a last step and if it broke or tore, well, you get the idea. Its possible to thin it down where it would fold over but I do believe even if I pulled it off that it would overhang off the end to some extent.

Ineresting, I'll need to mull that over a bit.

I don't see the tail that becomes the clip any wider than a standard clip anyhow, if that helps. I see it narrowing down quite a bit. Not unlike a tail.

The overhang you speak should be OK, kind of like an extra low rider. The scale could be adjusted to fill or minimize the gap made by the bend.

If this is not making sense, I can wait to draw this up to clarify.

Thanks,

-Todd

When the time comes around and I feel like I can get after it in the shop again a drawing may help. All we can do is try. Hopefully it will work as you envision. In the mean time work on that bushing. Chris uses a very proprietary size all his own and its not one you will be able to just buy somewhere. It will have to be made up. Believe me I tried to find it before going that route myself and looked into all manner of ways to make one myself. What I finally ended up doing was getting one made that is just below the actual thickness of the blade so that I could use regular washers. The outside diameter of the bushing also makes it challenging if not impossible to find washers that will fit it well enough to work as its supposed to so I just elected to eliminate that problem.

cool. thanks and again no hurry..

Is boring out the hole in the blade a viable option then?

I was heading there until I talked with Reese. His price was more reasonable than a carbide drill though.

I think if you call and ask Chirs he will ship you a bushing and washers - problem solved.

I lost a bushing while cleaning a knife several years ago -- a short and painful story, involing deer blood, a dog and some of Scotland's finest beverage.

He sells the washers on his web site. You will have to ask for the pivot bushings.

Hope that helps.

There you go. Didn't know that and figured he would not be inclined to do that for someone not owning anything more than a blade from him.

Steve,

I am back home just now and I dug out the blade in question and I have some good news regarding this project. I have a blade, bushing and both washers.

I will work up some drawings when I get a chance and submit for your comments.

Happy New Year to You and Yours!
