Greetings from Thailand. For those of you who may remember DeltaZ Knives, I'm the BZ (Barn) from that old company. The change from Lira to the Euro, and other circumstances forced that company to close, but I'm back in the forums as a knife enthusiast. Never lost that!

I'm back running my chemical business and just spending some time hanging around Thailand right now. Met up with the only custom knifemaker that I know about here, from Juna Knives. Great guy, so-so on knife style, but he does well for himself and is a typically proud Thai.

Otherwise there's really nothing knife-wise going on here so I hope to keep in touch vis-a-vie these forums.

Hope to hear from everyone soon (ok, not "everyone") but you know what I mean!

Regards,
Barn

BZ, welcome. I remember you well. Enjoy your time in Thialand. Best be careful hanging around here, or the bug will get you back into the knife game.
Regards, Mike

Hi Barney! Good to hear from you again. I still have a bunch of Delta-Z's and treasure them all. Wish they were still available ..sigh. Anyway, welcome back!

Michael, Ron...et.al.,

Great to hear from you. It's kind of funky here with the huge time difference to the States (14 hours ahead of California).

When I came here I brought a few customs with me (via FedEx) and wouldn't you know I've used them as gifts, either business or good friendships I've developed. I'm down to my Benchmade 910 and a 360 Pivot. :grumpy: I have a few knives back home in storage but nothing worth shipping here. Thai Customs is a bear. It took me 6 weeks to get a "priority" FedEx shipment cleared, and at that I paid duty on many items. I've found that mailing a padded envelope with no insurance is safer and doesn't attract attention. A risk, yes, but not much really. Anyway...

I sold a bunch of knives after closing DeltaZ. Now I regret it, as I had some beautiful customs. Would like to buy a few back, but they're gone into the black hole of knives, I'm sure!

Take care guys, talk to you soon I'm sure.
If you use AIM I have video chat and my iChat address is "barnabyz@mac.com".

Regards,
BZ

Wow! I'm glad to hear you're doing OK!

You had a great company and great knives and I've still got a few. I was just showing off the manual stiletto i got after I talked to you about the prototype at the Blade Show years ago.

Now and again people cry about Delta Z knives being gone and I steer them to the Italian versions! :D

Barn-Z!!

Good to hear you're well. Missed ya around the forums.

Let me know if you need another Pivot - or an Osprey, or a Skeleton. Loved them knives - must have about 10 or so of each.

Don't be a stranger.

It's beginning to feel like I never left. Somehow my aging mind still remembers everyone like it was yesterday! Patrick and I were iChating (he's in Australia working on a Warner Bros. flick) and I'm here in Thailand so the two of us only have a 3 hour time difference right now. Makes it difficult for his wife though, with 17 hours between them!

For me, I spent my post-DZ time focusing on my chemical business and trying to work out a decaying marriage. One survived, one didn't...but not for lack of trying. No regrests. I'm enjoying my freedom right now with the help of modern technology, ie. laptop and mobile phone, and spending time in a part of the world that is deep in tradition and culture, not to mention a very young, energising population of enthusiastic and hopeful people. USA was getting me down with the war in my face everyday, etc. I needed a break from my ex, etc. and now I'm able to enjoy that. I've been here 4 months now and may move on soon, but for now it's cool, despite the oppressive heat and humidity.

I've been looking for a few DeltaZ knives recently, but didn't want to pay eBay prices for them. I have to be careful now not to accumulate too much as moving is rough enough with what I DO have here! Anyway, as time goes on I'll be getting back into the swing of things. Right now I'm just tickled to have you guys get in touch with me through the forums. I have iChat which works the same and with AIM so if anyone what's to try and catch me in a video chat, my iChat buddy name is barnabyz@mac.com. When you go onto AIM it asks you if it's an AIM or .MAC name and you simply choose .MAC and enter barnabyz, and bingo we're chatting worlds aparts.. ok, continents apart.

Closing DeltaZ was not easy, but Pat and I needed to do it, a business decision as they say, and we are now just BS'ing about starting a new knife company sometime. With our experience and burn scars I think we could really give it a go, albeit on a smaller scale, less part numbers, etc.... 20/20 hindsight, right?

Gotta go right now, catch you soon.

Barn :D

Barney,

It's good to hear from you. I'm glad you landed on your feet. Knives are a brutal business, but a pleasant hobby.

Chuck,

How cool to hear from you. My chemical business has been doing pretty well www.zichemicals.com, but never exciting like the knife business. I usually deal with some pretty boring corporate types, and the characters in the knife business always made things interesting!

Keep in touch. We'll chat again soon.

GMT+7 , I carry one of your small stag, lockback folders as one of my EDC's. It is a great knife. I'm glad to hear that you are doing OK and if you are single, Thailand is a great place to be, just remember your "protection" and don't take anyone too seriously.

Gee, from the title of this thread... I thought it was going to be about Levitra!;) :D

Kama..

What a sweet little knife that small stag lockback was/is. I should have kept one for myself. What I would like to obtain is one of the limited edition damascus Osprey's that we made. I sold mine when the company closed and what a mistake that was. I had s/n#1/100 (the display unit in our offices). Someone got a deal on that when we sold it.
