To start out, my kids got me back into knives heavy again. My daughter and son both started hunting so I bought them traditional bows (to learn), .22 rifles, air rifles and now my son wants a high powered rifle (done....he just doesn't know it. My daughter loves shotguns and since her middle name is Benelli, well....she got an ethos. Like her mom made in Italy and like her....put together in Maryland.
Now the mushy stuff is over. My son saw me practicing for an event with my Tuatahi and asked to use my GB hunters axe to practice. Well I quit and showed him with a CS and put way oversized cutting pants on him to show him how to chop.
Then the magic came, my son and daughter asked why I have so many knives and why I use them. So I gave them each a SAK and had them just make fuzz sticks, then we went inside (it's cold) and I started going over lock types and barely touched on steel. My son immediately loved the Mnandi and my daughter for some reason fell in love with a case trapper. Again they are ignorant. So an hour long Q&A issued. To which finally resulted in THE question......what's your favorite knife? To which I had no answer because every knife has a purpose and I felt like I was melting there brains. My son perked up and said....so you drive your truck hunting and fishing and stuff right? "YES" . You ride your motorcycle for fun? "YES".......Your car is to get around....."YES".
So knives are like cars, some gotta work, some you play with and some you use every day? I swear to GOD I couldn't have been more proud. Now he owns a Mnandi and my Daughter owns a Case/Bose.......had to be fair. They can only use them with me but it's now there knives.
Has anyone else had this experience? My son is watching me and he has hunted and watched me butcher on the farm and hunting. I think he gets it. My daughter? She says if it cuts easy she is happy and does not like locks and there stupid if you use the knife right. I can't argue with her and grandpa carries an old case. KIDS PAY ATTENTION!
Sorry for the rant. I was shocked and concerned and proud all I'm the same day. My daughter likes shotguns, son rifles. I am blessed to be able to give them what I have. There's no gloating here. Mom tells them if daddy killing 8 deer one year when she was pregnant and couldn't work *MD had unlimited does in my area. So they know and are now old enough to see where our food comes from. BTW I am an IT guy but grew up on the family farm and joined the Corps. So just a desk jockey now.
Didn't hurt I got the 3 below on Friday. I sold my sifu to feed my pregnant wife and pay electric. I got it back.
