Hi there! We managed finally to be out again on the trails this week-end for a classic, rather easy and rather travelled hike. Beautiful views and the summer still in its full blossom. We reached the cross on the peak at 2262 meters. A bit annoying the low clouds on the way up to the top that sometimes were hiding the otherwise great scenery. We set up our usual small camp fire below the tree line, on the way back. Kids made use of few logs already cut we found in the back of a mountain hut. They wanted to leave a thank-you note with a drawing. Nice :). This time we went for the hatchet and the F1. Note the hatchet got all the dirty jobs and the F1 the precision work :D. We also manage to get a couple of good shots at the marmots (photo shots, I mean, don’t even think to hunt them around here :D). Some pics, just to share :).

Herlock, can you help out with the location? Is this in Italy near your home? And what's the name of the mountain peak?
I want to look at maps, but have no idea where to start... :o

Nice photos and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. The hatchet/knife combination looks effective. The F1 is a good all around blade.

That's some beautiful country. I'm glad you could get out and enjoy yourselves. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

If you go north from Milano you'll soon come to the Alps. Those marmots are like our woodchucks .The scientific name of our Eastern Woodchuck is " Marmota Monax " !!
What is that interesting wrought iron thing ? A wind gage ?

Hello! Thanks for your comments and your interest :). Yes, these places are very close to where we live. To be precise, these are the Prealpi or Alpine foothills (Voralpen). The peaks elevations are, generally, a bit lower than the ones in the Alps. Geologically also, they are younger. We generally hike in the valleys of Lecco, Bergamo and Sondrio Provinces (Valtellina, Valsassina, Val Seriana, etc.). The peak pictured here is Corno Stella (2620 meters) if you want to Google it :). The "iron thing" it's a steel cross, very common to find on most of alpine peaks; you know, Italy it's a rather Catholic country ;). There's also the Italian flag waving :). Take care.
