So....I've been out of the knife game for a few years (since early 2016 according to this forum's records)-fell into the firearms collecting black hole, haha.

What's new and fresh in the knife world?
Last time I was here, the Spyderco Para 3 wasn't even around just yet, Elmax and M390 were the "best steels ever", and double-edged knives were still illegal in Texas. Now you can carry a freakin sword around and nobody cares, lol.

So what's up, gang? :D

Lots of new brands out of China making superb knives at great prices. WE, Reate, Kizer, Bestech, Artisan Cutlery, but it's all the same flavor of the month (or flavor of the decade) titanium framelocks, but I dig it, I know others don't.

Hinderers are now readily available at not insane mark up on the secondary market.

Some cool new stuff from the big 3 (Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT) but lots of cool stuff has been discontinued, too.

Kershaw is making some really cool autos, and other USA made knives these days.

The balisong game has expanded rapidly, and high quality balis are more abundant than ever before.

Traditional knives with modern materials are getting pretty damn popular lately.

M390 is still the bees knees though.

There's probably a lot of other new stuff going on, but thats just off the top of my head :D

Have a quick look at GKD and the main manufacturer subforums (click on the posts that draw the most attention in the first two pages) and you will be golden.
Flippers, bearings, etc... Still knives are knives used for cutting (or show off, depends). Since Spyderco introduced the pocket clip and the hole in the blade for ambidiextrous opening... I don't think the evolution of knives has been too dramatic.

I think what's cool about the collaboration between custom knife makers and these manufacturers is the lower pricing and availability. The few offerings from Ferrum Forge, Laconico and Tashi Bharucha, via Massdrop, were all pretty decent.

I am in the same boat but it has been watches. I see so many new steels I have never heard of. Whats up with these?
