Well a short tale first, a friend on the forums, a Gold member here, asked
my help to sell his Sebenza for him, he sent it out, I took some photos
and posted her up. Probably the next day or two I took the knife out to
look her over again and noticed just a cosmetic problem with the blade,
there was a ripple on one side, so I pulled the sale, sent the knife to CRK
for a looksee, they said they felt the blade had been twisted and might
have caused that, but took care of it and sent the knife back to me.
Pulling forward, yesterday the knife arrived, got her out, she was so very
nice, blade looked perfect and zipadidoda sharp too! I was quite taken with
her and hung my head, emailed my friend and said I was sorry, but couldn't
post this back up as I now wanted to keep her and he just laughed....
and laughed. Well long story just a bit longer, I 'thought' I had found THE
knife with the Spyderco Stretch, lovely knife, of course apples and oranges
we are talking here, but there are some similarities that I found and will
show in the following images, since the Sebenza has now usurped that knife
it's only fair to present the findings.
First a shot of the rascally Large Classic Sebenza with Desert Ironwood inlay
in this closeup you can see how finely ground the blade is on this one, she really
push cuts easily through material, also note how CRK makes the slope up to
the edge, this way material isn't hung up on any sharp transitions
Between the Stretch, which I have modified btw by removing the hump in case
any of you were wondering, the blade profile of the edge to the Sebenza is almost
identical, shown here;
The difference being when the spines are lined up, the Stretch does tilt the blade
down to a lower position;
Both knives have a nice secure guard area, love that bit;
of course the Sebenza is a bit thicker than the Carbon fiber Stretch, but then
the Stretch's finer point is that it has less of an imprint in the pocket for easier carry;
and while the blades start out about the same thickness, the Stretch does have
a bit of a taper out to the tip
So that's the Good news for the day, I'm officially back into the Sebenza fold
My family just rolls their eyes at me, but, I am getting use to that!
