I noticed that buck's locks are at the end of the knife, while spyderco's are in the middle of the knife. Any difference? And which one is stronger?

huh: If I am not mistaken, it was the late Al Mar who advocated the backlock towards the middle of his folders. It was done so as to enable one handed lock disengagement much faster I think.
I suspect it could be slightly stronger than a rear end backlock, with the back spring being shorter. Though I could be wrong.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Krizzard, out.

The rear Lockback will be slightly stronger
due to the leverage.

The rear locking bar is longer than a mid-lock
so the mechanical advantage will help the spring
hold the lock in place. For this reason most
of the more robust lockbacks use rear lockers.

For everyday use, however,I prefer the ease of
a mid locker which is what they were designed
for.

I find the mid-locks much handier for one handed closing. On the other hand I've never accidently disengaged a rear lock, and it's happened several times with mids. I'm sure that's why Spyderco and others have gone to the "Boye" indent.
