Back Lock Fail With a Happy Ending.

I have a Spyderco Dragonfly in G-10, Foliage Green. I don't give this knife a whole lot of use, and certainly no abuse. I do use it, but mostly sharpen pencils, open boxes (cut the tape), that kind of thing. One good day after having just cleaned it, the back lock failed and the blade was free floating. Upon inspection, the spine of the knife was cracked. The leaf spring is held by a grove/slot and I reckon it had created enough stress on the steel that caused it to crack. Something that I could expect from some type of abuse, but certainly not very little gentle use I have given this knife.

I reached out to Spyderco and they advised me to send it in. Few days later I had what I believe to be a brand new knife in my hands. Although it could have been fixed and sent back, hard to say as the knife was like new when I sent it in, hard to say. Either way, big kudos to Spyderco for taking care of it.

Wish I would have taken some pics, but I didn't. Have you had a failure like this before?

Yeah, I will usually take pics and document that kind of thing, but I think I was a little frantic over it and just packed it and sent it in asap. Will look back to see if I did take it and just don't remember, or I will draw it out best I can and post it below.

I had a personal fail with the same knife. I took it apart for cleaning one day but couldn't put it back together. It was the first back lock I'd ever taken apart. I couldn't overcome the spring tension to get it back in. Left it in a box in pieces for two weeks. Took it to my brother, offered him a Buck 110 if he could put it back together. He fixed it in maybe five minutes.
