What's up guys and gals,

Just logged in for the first time after a couple of years.
18 years old now, first post of me was when I was twelve:eek:
All those years in-between, I bought some amazing knives (PM2, ZT 0561 etc..)
But then came the moment where I lost all interest in knives. Did not care for them anymore, at all. Blame me, being +- 15 years old, having a collection like that is pretty crazy. So what I did was sell 'em all.
I did not feel bad selling them, because I got cash money for them and back then, that was worth a whole lot more for me.

My brother's obsession with knives became greater and greater in those years.
He graduated from collecting simple Spyderco's to collecting Chris Reeve's and other higher-end stuff. So everytime I came over and visited him (my brother being 12 years older) I always felt a little shitty when he showed me his newly acquired knives because I never continued collecting them. It was sort of a thing that we shared and it was always cool to talk about.

So what made me come back?
I bought a Cryo a couple of months back, and started carrying it everyday again. And I missed it a whole lot. The things are just so damn useful...

So with my comeback in the knife-game, I have a question:
What would be a cool knife for me to get? Something extraordinary, something you don't see everyday. Not too expensive, but just fun and useful.

Thanks guys

JR

Hi Joep, cool thread! I'm curious with what kind of knives they come up with. Your big brother.
P.s. Get a Para 3 with a MXG Gear ti clip

Go to a store with a decent selection and handle some different brands/models in person. I can't tell you how many I have bought just knowing I'd love it from pics and reviews, and as soon as it arrives and I hold it... nope... damn it... up for sale it goes.

And others that I've actually seen photos of and thought 'no, not for me' and then held in the store out of curiosity and ding ding, we have a winner!

CQC-7 was like this for me. Never liked them until I actually held one that belonged to a friend. As soon as I had it in my hand, it was perfect. Now I have a few of them and is also my EDC.

Inexpensive, fun, and odd...you need a CRKT Fulcrum 2.

They aren't exactly scarce, but a Benchmade Ritter Griptilian could fit the bill(your choice of size). M390 steel is top shelf stuff. They can be found relatively cheap($130-$180 with a set of upgraded scales).

I've realized my Ritter mini may very well be my most carried knife. It's not my absolute favorite, top 3 for sure though, but I carry the hell out of the little bastard. The blade profile is designed to be used, their warranty will cover absolutely everything under the sun, and it's fun to play with(yay Axis lock!), haha.

A good bit of people don't like the "plastic" scales, so there are tons of aftermarket options to fill the void if you feel the need to. It's a great knife for just about any situation you'd run into.

* Bonus points if you get an orange one *

Grab a manix 2 by spyderco.

Yes, I'd call it an everyday knife.. but it's also extraordinary, inexpensive, fun and useful.

Not extraordinary, but I have really loved my Real Steel Carbon Fiber Sea Eagle. I usually use higher end knives, but this knife is so great! The action, steel's heat treat and blade geometry are really good, lockup very solid, etc. awesome knife.
Another would be a Maxamet steel PM3, or Cru-Wear. The knife center exclusive Manix 2 in Carbon Fiber and Cru-Wear is amazing, the best spyderco I own. Look through the exchange here for now. I have seen quite a few pop up lately.
Benchmade mini grip or full size griptilian in 20CV or M4. You can pick what you like on their custom configuration website.
I would join mass drop, I got this M390 frame lock flipper for under 135. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kizer-ki3455a1-dorado-m390
They also had some great WE knives that were designed by Ferrum forge, among others. But you have to wait for one to open, then they close after a few days.
If you go high end I would look at Ferrum Forge knives.

Welcome back to BF and the friendly bunch of co-enablers that we're eager to be!

Give us some more details on your "cool knife" and we might be better able to offer up suggestions:
What is your max budget?
What is your typical EDC use?
Do you have any legal restrictions where you live?
Are there any knife deal breakers for you?
Are you open to traditionals, moderns, autos, assisted, folding, fixed...???

Without any better idea what your parameters are I have to kind of echo the suggestion above of the Fulcrum 2 for a cool, little knife...

Or, I think even better, the re-release of the Van Hoy Snap Lock! Cheap and exceedingly weird and cool! If your older brother is into high-dollar knives, you won't impress him with a Spyderco or Benchmade. Best to think out of the box!

Custom.

Keep your eye on the For Sale by Makers section of the exchange.

Something will speak to you shortly.

Lol, I love all these suggestions for a Full Custom for an 18 year old who's current carry is a KERSHAW CRYO!

Thanks for your help but you're at a 10 and we need you to come down to a 3...

A sprint run Spyderco PM2, Spyderco Domino, Steel Will Gekko Small or large they come in different scales and steels to fit your budget. On the low end the Real Steel H6 series, Their are about 8 configurations. They have different scales, locks and different grinds.

Welcome back. I say no safe queens, we all have our own, but I like the idea of only holding onto those knives you will actually use, if you do not like the way they feel or or do for you, put them up for sale or trade. Another post said it well, you may be surprised by one you did not think would impress you and vice verse, that is part of the fun of the sickness (hobby). For pure function and simplicity, try a Mora for camping or light hiking. Keep checking out the exchange as well.

Ps. I have also been thinking about an Opinel 6 in stainless or a Svord mini peasant friction folder, just to try them out.
