Back spring no longer flush?

I am the proud owner of a GEC 72 Cody Jack. It is a great knife and I have carried it daily for the last 5 months.

As it came, the back springs at closed, half and full stop were all flush with the liners. Over time, however I have noticed that they gradually have sunken. Not enough to bother me as long as it does not continue. This is my working blade. I expect some wear And it does not affect he function of the knife.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the reason for this? Pivot pin wear? Spring wear? Both would theoretically cause this but I am looking for a more concrete answer. Has anyone else experienced this? And, if so, what was the cause?

Thank you in advance for your input.

Maybe the kick has worn down? I know that if you file a kick to lower the blade, the spring will sink exponentially. At any rate, if you have not modified or abused the knife, GEC will take care of any problems. Their warranty service is outstanding.

That's the only reason I've ever seen for a spring sitting lower. Have you adjusted the kick, to lower the blade tip?

I have seen vintage knives with worn springs or cam tangs result in the springs being low. These almost always result in a significant loss of snap. Hard to believe such wear would be the case with your knife seeing as it has half stops unless it has seen an abnormal amount of use with little, if any, pivot lubrication?
How is the action and are the tang corners rounded and worn?

thanks for the information. I have modified the kick I order to seat the tip of the pen blade even with the liners. It certainly makes sense.

I live in northern Canada. Sending knives back to the manufacturer results in expensive shipping charges, customs and very long wait times. I usually modify and/or fix knives, jackets, tools, etc to fit what I want them to do if I feel I can help them perform better.

Modifying the knife would void the Warranty anyhow, and is probably the cause of the springs not being flush. I have never heard of a GEC knife wearing out in six months or so.
