so, over the past years i've carried lots of different knives. expensive ones, cheap ones, custom ones... i've carried strider SNG's, strider fixed blades, sebenzas, lots of different spydercos, busses, swamp rats, chris reeve fixed blades, microtechs, various benchmades, bucks, emerson, crkts... you name it.

and i've found myself, more or less, settling for this 110.

but this one has a catch to it. it's nickel bolstered with black wood inserts. i won it on ebay. the blade is still the 420HC stuff, as far as i can tell. most of the standard 110's i see are brass with the brown rosewood, right?

anyone got the scoop with what's up with this knife?

O.K. in all seriousness ;) that looks to me like the special customer order or (L.E. maybe) that Buck did for someone? I don't know who...
I know they came in a yellow box with a S.P. # on the box end. Special production #...????
its charcoal grey laminated birch, with nickel silver bolsters, and 420HC blade.
You could confirm this if you have the box end? Anyway I am 98% sure of this. I believe they were about $60.00. Very nice knife, and a great user!

They were selling them last night on Smokey Mountain Knife Works TV program for $49.99 and free ground shipping. They said that they were a Special Order that Smokey Mountain was able to pick up. The SMKW TV program is on satelitte channel 225 on Monday nights.

Years ago I heard a story of a fellow who was seeking the perfect deer rifle or one-gun does-it-all rifle. He was told to get a .270 or a 30-06. He embarked on a three year long quest, spent numerous hours on the gun range, bought the newest magnums and spent countless dollars on hunting. He bought gun magazines and hit the gun shows to get the scoop on the 'newest' and 'best' rifles. He thought he'd find the perfect rifle.

After a tub load of cash spent on reloading equipment, optics and exotic calibers, he came to his senses and traded his .375 Weatherby, .222 and a few others for a stock Ruger 77 in 30.06 and was reported to have been happy with this choice. With the remainder of the cash, he opened up a savings account.

Good knife that 110, and a winner at that.
