In 1976 I bought my first handgun, a Ruger Standard Model .22 at Montgomery Wards for $79, along with a brick (500 rounds) of Winchester Wildcat .22 for $5.90. A month later I bought a Colt Combat Commander .45 ACP for $269, but that`s another story. The only .22 handgun I`ve had for a long time is a Ruger Single Six, and have been wanting another, but no money for guns right now. My neighbor told me on Saturday that he has a Ruger .22 he wanted to get rid of, did I know anyone looking for one? Well, we ended up doing a trade, my Phoenix and a Kephart EDC (still have to make that one) for his son, for this Ruger MK III Target Model.

Sounds like a great trade for both you guys. The ruger mark series pistols are awesome. I have a older one with probably 15k rounds through it and never a problem. Great pistols. Congrats sir

I don't know what side of that trade I'd rather be on, both sound too good :) congrats!

I love my Mark III. Accurate, fun and cheap. :)

If you can make some micarta scales to fit, I'll take 'em!

Sounds like a great trade for both of you! Definitely eligible for positive feedback. :D

I have an old Ward's Western Field Model SB80A pump .22 LR that my Dad bought from Montgomery Wards sometime in the '40s as his first rifle. $18, IIRC. He and his brothers shared a couple, but this was the first one that was just his. Great condition and works beautifully. I had it out a couple of months ago for a little target practice.

And on the topic - great trade for everyone it seems. :)

Nice! I am thinking that one should get some good time at the range.

Unless I am training, my Colt .22 gets the most use at the range, and it is one that all the family likes to fire.

I wish you could still get the .22lr ammo with regularity and at reasonable prices.

I am paying $8 for 100 rounds when I can find them on the shelf, and then am limited to only 3 boxes.

Let me know whenever you would like to drive down to do some practice at my range.

best

Love the Ruger MK series.
I had a MKII target & a 22/45 at different times,both very accurate & reliable fun guns.

I would love a MKIII in SS with fluted barrel.

I also had a 10 or 12" bull barrel from an AMT Lightning pistol I'd put on the MKII occasionally.(I loved the contrast of the SS barrel over the Blued handle of the MKII.)
Kinda barrel heavy:rolleyes:,but it sure was accurate.I made my first & only leather holster for that setup too.(POS but functional:barf:)

I'm a big fan of the ruger mark pistols. here is a pic of my slab side mark II....only problem is shells are hard to come by these days for a 22LR here (which makes no sense).
