I hate to admit I was wrong.:o I was wrong selling my first Ti-Lock. Just couldn't unlock the sucker, this one is different somehow, it works for me. I use the three finger method, great. I got this knife in the first place because of the beautiful drop point blade, love it. The handle feel of course is better than my beloved Small Micarta Insingo, nice.
As most, I did a few mods. I'm keeping this one.

I kept reading thru the Ti-Lock thread. Looking at the cool Kid Congo pics, and decided I needed to try one. Bought it and played with it some but it had such a different feel to it I thought I wouldn't use it. So I sold it off pretty quickly.

Now I'm wishing I'd of kept it and gave it more of a chance to grow on me. Then CRK released that Steam version that some guys dislike but I think it looks kinda cool.

So I'm hoping another Ti-Lock may pop up in the exchange or something so I can give it another go. Just so dang speedy.

Sooner or later I'm guessing I'll nab one somewheres. :)

Glad to hear this one was meant for you. I like the plain look on the lock bar. When I got mine, I couldn't master a one handed opening or closing method. I love the blade style and accepted it's a two handed opener. I can live with that.

A great knife indeed, plus that is a lot of blade for the handle.:) I like!
Yep, got rid of the bright blue, not fond of that. I may also blast the scales to keep it low key??

Question - what method did you use to get rid of the smurf blue? Just not a fan of blue on my knives. Just my personal tastes. Even on my small Sebs, I sent them in to swap out to silver spacer and double silver lugs.

I'm also holding Gull Wing personally responsible for me putting the 2010 Ti-Lock that was listed on ACK onto layaway last night. Enablers! All of you!!

;)

:cool:Guilty!

Mask around it with blue painters tape, trim tape with exacto blade. Then 400 or 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper, then Scotchbrite. That leaves a satin finish.

Did you remove it from the knife blade or leave it in place? I'm curious how easily that arm, or whatever it's proper name is, comes out of the blade.

I would think it needs to be a pretty tight fit so it cannot work its way out on its own.

I had even considered contacting CRK to see if it could be replaced with one off the line prior to anodizing. I've no problem with the brass coloration, not so much the blue. But I can live with it if needs be.

Joe58, left all in place. I wouldn't try to remove the Ti spring, it's pressed into the blade. Hint - To remove the blade. I placed a small plastic wedge under the spring to remove pressure so the blade can be easily removed.(not too much wedge now)

Joe58, what is ACK?

Ah, I follow you now.

ACK = Arizona Custom Knives. I wasn't sure about listing them by name as I don't know if they're BF approved. On more expensive pieces, they have a layaway. But if they aren't approved, I'm sure a mod will edit my post if it isn't proper.

For some odd reason I cannot fathom, my wife seems to think we need to put money towards the house we're buying and the upcoming move. Pfffffftttt. ;)

I like the "old" blasted look. Took that task on and here it is. I like the texture of a blasted titanium finish.
This was fun.

That looks great!!!!
What blasting material did you use to get that finish???

I do like that finish over the standard blue. Seems to "go" a little bit better with the overall look.

I think I'm going to shoot CRK an email and see if this might be something you could request to have done. Never hurts to ask I guess. Curious.

What's funny is I bought one a couple of months back to try out. I liked it a lot but preferred my smalls so I decided to let it go. I almost had to give it away. It sat forever in the exchange and I can't recall it I sold it a deep discount or traded it for something else. Either way I couldn't believe no one seemed interested in it. The past couple of weeks I've seen a few pop up at much higher prices than I had they are moving. Mine was LNIB. I think I only carried it for a week and cut very little with it. I sort of regret selling it. I'll def change the pocket clip out like you did though on my next one.

I received this response from CRK today when I inquired if they would blast the blue on the Ti-Lock. Kinda what I figured. But I thought I'd post the reply in case anyone was wondering. I didn't ask if you do it yourself if it voids the warrantee or not. That'd be my biggest concern. So I guess I still don't know that one.

" Joe - No we would not blast the spring to remove the blue anodizing.
The Ti-Lock is a collaboration with the Hawks and they and Chris decided that the spring needed to be blue.
We will not alter that spring here in the shop. And we don't recommend it being done outside of the shop either because you would have to dismantle the knife and the ti-lock is tricky to put back together."
