I've been carrying a liner-lock knife since the 90's. When my eye Brand Soddie arrives, I think I'm going to start to carry That folder, again. After all, the Sodbuster was my First folder as a lad and I never had a problem with that knife. Has anyone gone down this road? New back to old? Thanks.

Yes, I have switched back and forth over the years. This month it's SAK's, last month I was into fixed blades, and the month before that I was gathering Old Timers, Camillus, and Case. I weed out what I don't like and I keep the rest. I have a very diverse collection from this habit. Variety is nice, the same black tactical knives do get boring after a while.

BJE---I know what you're saying. The Traditional knives just say, "use me." Also, as much as I enjoy BF, I find myself buying too many knives---Again!!

I know that road very well. Like BJE I've gone back and forth. In fact, this week, I put my Stockman away and have been carrying a Spyderco. Reason? Don't have one.

I'll be traveling next week on business so I'll be switching to my "travel knife". A Wenger SI.

I'm not prejudice. I don't discriminate against any quality knife or style of knife. Whether it be a Case or a Spyderco. As long as there is some appeal and the quality is there, I'll carry it.;)

I used to carry Liner and Frame Lock Tactical knives all the time, till about three years ago I went back to my roots and started to carry slip joints again.

It's good to be back home.:)

I must add to the above.

A Slip Joint is part of my EDC again and I add a Tactical and or Fixed and or Multi-Tool to my carry everyday.

I'm just glad I don't live near water, with all that weight.

I'm so all over the place when it comes to what I carry that I can't even really describe it. There is always a slip joint in my pocket....this could be a SAK or
a 200-400 dollar custom...or something in between. I never can tell what I'm going to pick up. There also always a bigger folder in my back pocket...again...all over the place from a $30 Boker Trance (great knife for the money BTW) all the way up to a Sebenza.

I just grab what appeals to me that day. I rotate the pile-o-knives on my stand by the door every month or two.

Thanks, Gentlemen! So, I'm not the only one!! Sounds like I'm in good company!

I carried modern folders, both production and custom for many years, especially while still working in law enforcement.

I found that once I retired from the job 4 years ago and moved to rural NC, I naturally progressed (regressed?) to carrying the types of knives I'd known and loved as a youth.

While I can appreciate all knives, slipjoints and traditional patterns are my first love and always earn pride of place when it comes to daily carry and use.

For a while back in the 80's I played around with and had a small collection of "modern" knives. Zytel handles, single blades with a lock, bead blasted stainless steel. Even fooled around with a Pacific Cutlery company balisong. They were okay. I guess I was trying the "new" stuff, design wise.

But in the 80's I had some family members pass on, and I inherited thier old pocket knives since I was the knife knut of the family. When grandad passed away, Uncle Mike gave me his old stag Hen and Rooster stockman that was in a old cigar box with a brown paper note taped to it that said "for the pup". What he always called me. About a week before dad went from his lukimia, he gave me his old Case pocket knife and the old Colt woodsman, and told me they were his very good friends and may they serve me as good as him. About a week after dad's wake I found myself sitting in the bedroom holding the old peanut and grandads stockman and turning them over in my hands thinking alot of things. Mostly how these two men who were extremely influencial in my life got by with the simple tools they chose for their lifestyle, different as they were. It was a turning point of some sort, because all of a sudden the new stuff didn't mean anything to me anymore. I sold off, gave away the modern stuff and started carrying dad's old peanut. A year or two later it got sent back to Case to have the cracked handle scale and worn out main blade replaced. It's been traditional ever since. Now the modern knife hold zero interest to me. The only single blade locking folder I have is a few Opinels.

I also drifted away from modern back to traditional. My Spyderco and Kershaws are back in their boxes packed away.

My user drawer now only holds traditionals. For stockmans I rotate a Kabar(Camillus)1081,Schrade 8OT,44OT, and Schrade 832 (getting cleaned up to use right now). I have a 34OT and 108OT on the way.

Along with one of my stockmans I carry a 194OT.Or on the weekends a SC205 Sharpfinger.Except the already large 8OT,that gets paired up with a small 24OTX.

I have a 125OT on the way also to add to my larger blade rotation.

Modern knives are great, but I just decided they aren't for me anymore.

I am really showing my age and knowledge of the knife world. I mean no disrespect but why would anyone want to carry something that looks like a claw or other odd shapes, what good are they? I do carry lockers and slippies, but the lock backs have been around a LONG time. Am I that out of touch with the knife world? I have never had the desire to even hold one, much less actually purchase one.

BTW: Great Story Jackknife, thanks for sharing.

JT---There's just something about them, the traditional folders. I think of my Dad's pocket knife and my first pocket knife. It takes me back.

I to am guilty of owning more than one style of knife...
However most of what I will call modern knives have been sold off.
I have a Benchmade pre production 705 with ats-34 that my wife bought me probably 8 or 9 years ago. I still carry that knife. It is just one of those knives that ya can't quit using. However when it comes right down to it, the traditional style knives just have so much character and eye appeal, I can't get away from them...
A while back I sold off some production slippies out of my collection, and am still trying to decide exactly what I want for my first custom slippie. It seemed like the natural progression, not that there is anything wrong with production pieces, I still have a good collection. But I spend time looking at the pictures of the custom knives folks have bought on here and I can't help myself. I really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes in to these beauties.
I can see myself 30 years from now sitting on the porch admiring one of these classics, and makin a pile of shavings.... :D

You could just whittle away with this whittler by Don Hanson III if was selling but I am not.:p Just thought, I would add some drool factor to the thread. It is an old one of Don's, he did not do the engraving, engraver unknown.
Just like you said, Bought right here on the forum.

Very nice... I've watched some very good engavers do work on custom rifles,
Truly an art. Thanks for sharing the pic

Traditionals are my favorites always have and will be. I find them to be more useful and easier to carry. At the same time, I can appreciate pretty much anything with an edge on it that can sit in a pocket or a sheath.

I still have not come around to "clips". Just do not like the way they feel in my hand.
I have some knives by Kit Carson, Scott Cook and others that I really enjoy because they were made by people I respect.
