Nice pics

I really like the silhouette picture :D

Looks like a blast besides the damn leeches.

Looks like an awesome time!! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Can you give some details on your pack??

Looks like a good time. how long were you out?

Malaysia 2 weeks: 1 week Kuala Lumpur + 1 week jungle trip in the highlands of Pahang
Norway 2 weeks: hiking from North Cape to Alta (about 220 km)
The rest of the time I spend in Germany, visiting family and friends.

Yup. This was my first experience with these little suckers. Now I wish I had taken pictures with them still on my legs, but I never had the nerves...

That is a lot of knife weight to be packing. Hats off to you.

What were your impressions of the two knives?

thanks for sharing

Brand: Tasmanian Tiger
Model: Range Pack
Capacity: 115 liter (30.5 Gallons)
Pros: tough, well organized compartments, detachable side pockets make a good day pack, excellent carrying system for +30kg
Cons: with 4.5 kg net weight a bit on the heavy side

For trips like this I wouldn't want another back pack.

What a journey. I admire someone taking the time go on a journey like that. Thanks for sharing. Nice Busse's too!

Sweet Pictures. That B11 looks like a winner! I'm sure you will get more Busse soon from missing Blade =)

Did you have any trouble traveling with those knives? I'd be worried about taking my Busse's overseas. I'd hate to have some $500 knives taken off me.

Chris.

No trouble at all. However, I made myself familiar with local laws as well as applicable airline regulations. In a nutshell: don't put it in your hand luggage and don't have the knives ready at hand in urban areas.

About the knife performance...

In the beginning I forced myself to use each knife exclusively for two days to discover possible shortcomings in design, comfort, etc. It became quickly obvious that the B-11 is the more comfortable chopper. However, when batoning the HHFSH split logs already when only half way trough, whereas the B-11 had to be beaten almost all the way through. So the division of labor was decided: B-11 for chopping down trees and limbing and the HHFSH to baton. What a dream team!

Watch out in the jungle! Due to its weight and thickness the B-11 is definitely not a substitute for a machete (and it was never meant to be).

The only real disappointment was the jungle green coating of the blades. I was hoping they would look hard beaten after the trip. But no. The coating shows some smoothing and minor scratches, but not to the extent I was hoping for. Too tough for wood these knives...

Cheers for the review! Always good to find out which of your tools excel in a particular area...

What an amazing adventure! I envy you! Looks like a great time. Norway is probably the most naturally beautiful place I've ever been. Were you able to get to any fjords? Norwegian people are very accommodating. Did you ever find yourself wishing you had a smaller blade at any point on the trip?

looks like a hell of a trip. i need to take a trip out to norway/sweden/finland one of these days once i build up some more leave
