Hey Guys/Gals, I need help with something.
I am looking for a back up blade, i carry a full size
folder but sometimes i need a knife in public and i dont want to take
out my spyderco tenacious when theres a crowed of people. I recently look at a couple of knives and heres what i came up with.
Boker subcom.
and the coldsteel mini ak-47.
What do you Guys thing about them?
If you have any more ideas of back up blades for UNDER 75$
That would be appreciated greatly
Thanks!

I've heard good things about the CS mini AK-47..never used one though.

If you are looking for a 'people friendly' knife, you may want to avoid Cold Steel though and go with something like a SAK.

Might want to look into the Buck Vantage Avid (small)...excellent value $35...I'm not a big Buck fan but that knife really impressed me I have to admit. Their Sandvik steel with BOS heat treat is great as well.

For about $75.00 I would personally recommend the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian in 154 cm. Not too 'scary' and just under the 3 inch law of many states. It actually is a good value IMO and the Axis lock alone is worth the fee of admission. There really are a TON of great folders for under $75 though.

Good luck.

I'm with razor on this, get yourself a good traditional slippy or SAK for public use.

Spyderco G-10 Dragonfly. Small, lightweight, great steel. I recently picked one up for $72 bucks online. (pics by bladeforums member ScottFW)

I think now would be an excellent time to look into classical slipjoint knives. always classy and legal everywhere, a nice traditional knife in your pocket is a great companion and case makes the working line so you can get a real handcrafted knife for very little.

Yes sir.

I usually carry a traditional in my front pocket and one-hander in my back pocket. I've never had anyone look askance at me for using my traditional. (Though I more frequently carry a Buck than a Case.)

Spyderco Ladybug, or some of there other keychain designs work well when you don't want to draw attention. Leatherman and Victorinox also make some nice keychain offerings. If you keep it on your keys, you'll always have it with you, assuming you have your keys. I've got one of those little Spyderco slip-joints and it blends right in with the keys. You wont know it's there until you need to use it. -Mines the mid-sized one, not the Bug, I think the Grasshopper is the larger one, no idea what I have, but it works.

After going on a Spyderco binge for a bit, I've fallen back in love with carrying an SAK as well. Today I had my Spyderco Yojimbo 2 on me, as well as a Victorinox MiniChamp. I took the opportunity to cut some loose carpet fibers in the training room in front of a bunch of colleagues and used the MiniChamp. Nobody gave me a second look.

I carry my Tenacious everyday too and i usually rotate through my collection of slip joints for the other pocket. The slippy is the workhorse and the Tenacious is just there to look pretty.
A good three inch pen knife or peanut would serve you pretty well and they're very comfortable to carry.

For a crowd safe knife Victorinox is the way to go. No one ever freaks out at a swiss army knife.

Also a leatherman makes a great backup knife.

This has been my set-up for the past little while, and it hasn't left me wanting...

Here are a few other small folders in the carry rotation:

From experience I always carry a Victorinox or small traditional folder like and opinol in my front pocket to complement my EDC. It is great to use around people that may not be too happy about you pulling out a para or something like that or to give to someone that asks to use your knife.

For a back-up blade, I simply rotate my RR Mini Whittler 180 degrees and have my choice of sheepsfoot or drop point! Mine cost $6.51 delivered.

Not everything needs to be tacticool!
