Back story:
Was gifted a TC Barlow in September. Literally my edc until the end of 2013. Wonderful knife.
I wanted a pony jack so badly I could taste it. Bought one the few days of December. Through no fault of the knife I just didn't bond with it. I think it was because I couldn't index it in my pocket and was always pulling it out backwards. Among other things.... Carried it until a week ago when I found my second slipjoint, which I fixed and put in my pocket.
So, now we are caught up. I thought I had my zulu fixed. Nope. Popped the pivot pin again today cutting open a diaper box. Not exactly hard use. I could fix it for good, but that would violate my personal policy of not going back and fixing problems on previous projects caused by inexperience. So....I'm not carrying it anymore. It's back in the man box.
Now, what was I supposed to do? Don't want to carry the pony jack. I guess I could carry the TL-29, but it's kind of overkill. Everything else has too much emotional significance to carry because I'd be heart broken if I lost it. That leaves one option.
The Tom's Choice Barlow.
I put it to sleep when the pj arrived. I planned on keeping it nice until Caleb (now 3) needed a knife. I guess he'll just have to either find something different or accept a slightly more used knife.
Pulled it out, wiped the oil off, and dropped it on my pocket. Feels good, really good. Like I've been missing something and now it's back.
Right where it belongs.
