I had left the fold after some bad luck with a couple of new Bucks about a year ago. A bit unfair really, stack five or six excellent, reliable Buck knives against two that were not perfect and I go over the top in my criticism. Fast forward to today, I'm in the local sporting goods store with my boy and I spy a Vantage Avid in the display case. Dymond wood scales, 13C26, Bos heat treat, and "Is that the price!?" Are you kidding me? Made in USA?!
It's in my pocket. It's gonna stay in my pocket. What a great knife. Thank you Buck, another great blade I'll be proud to carry.

Yob, Thanks and welcome . Should you run into any others not up to your standards run it by us before leaving . Buck can work it out with you . DM

Congrats! I have the same knife in my pocket now. Very hard to beat at that price point, even harder to beat that price and be US made.

I have that same knife and have carried it awhile now. It's a great knife! I plan to pick up a few more to give as Xmas presents.

Yob,

Welcome back,

Intersted to know your story and what problems/knives caused you to stray for a while. Also interested what knives held you attention while you were away and why?

Great choice for a carry knife, I have the same one and enjoy it every time I use it. The steel is really growing on me and I hope to see it in more of Bucks future offerings.

I love mine. I even use it to dig weeds out of the yard. No chipping on the edge yet, and still holds a good edge after being plunged in the dirt 5 or 6 times.

Truth be told I always put my trusty 110 on my belt when I'm in the woods, I've had it for about 15 years, I just don't get out hunting much anymore. Case slippies are always a favorite in my left pocket with my Zippo and the little 373 is too good a knife to stay out of the rotation for long. So really Bucks are still well respected round here. I experimented with the Rat1 (too heavy for EDC) and the Tenacious (laid aside for other reasons). Benchmades, Spyderco the usual things that knife nuts get into. The two that put me off new Bucks for awhile were sent back to Idaho last week after sitting in a drawer for a long time collecting dust, when I hear back from Buck I'll report fully here. My big concern when it comes to EDCs is cost. I'm a factory worker and I like to put my money where my mouth is when it comes to keeping jobs in this part of the world but some of the imported stuff can be very tempting when it comes to price. That's why I was so thrilled to see the markings on the blade of the Avid. Cut down a bunch of cardboard and some branches yesterday and it is performing extremely well so far. Going to take my son out in the woods today for a hike and he will have the 373 (he's five years old) and I'll bring my new Vantage. Havent had a new knife this pleasing in a long time.
