I am getting ads for various places being loaded into my computer. This week it is casinos. They are loaded right to my shortcuts on the opening screen. Is it from stuff I'm clicking on (attachments) or just from ??? I'm not mister computer expert. But if there is a way to avoid this it would be nice.
thanks, guy

Your computer is infected with adware. I'll move this thread to Community Center; there are some people there who can help you.

you could try downloadind "ad-aware personal" from http://www.lavasoft.com/software/adaware/ .

its a free program, just make sure to update it before you run it. In my experience this will clear up 80 to 90% of ad and spyware issues. If that doesn't work there are other similar programs that find spyware as well and often find different than ad-aware does. search for one called spy sweeper on downloads.com. its not a free program but does come with a 30 day free trial (at least it always used to, don't hold me to that.)

If THAT doesn't work you can shoot me a PM or email if you'd like and I'll try and get you set up using a program called HijackThis. gotta be careful with that one though, it finds both malicious and benevolent registry entries- you just have to know which is which before deleting.

I'd also try CWShredder and HiJack this if it's not cleaned after you do all of the things mentioned in the above threads.

I also like to go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and run an online virus scan. It's free and you only need to install a small ActiveX Control. Trend Micro is one of the best Virus Companies around.

I also think that AVG antivirus is the best one out there. I actually prefer it over some of the ones you have to pay for.

Cheers :)
