Backmounted Phillips and Cork Screw

I saw a Granada production (Jeremy Brett was the star) episode of Sherlock Holmes - The Abbey Grange. There is a sailor who says he always carries a silver coin, a length of twine and a multiplex knife. Then he produces it from his pocket. Its very interesting to me because it didn't have a back mounted awl but instead had both a phillips and cork screw (because he muffed the opening of a bottle of wine, holmes was able to deduce the fellow they were looking for would have a multiplex knife on him). I got to thinking that would be a neat combination but haven't found one with that configuration.

Question: Does anyone know of a model SAK that has the backmounted phillips and cork screw?

BTW: Does anyone know why the sailor said he always carries a silver coin?

I thought the Phillips screw didn't appear until well into the 20th century.

AFAIK, the two cannot coexist as backmounted tools on the typical SAK. There are a few SAKs with regular top-mounted Phillips drivers, either stand-alone, socketed, or part of a combo tool.

No idea. Perhaps the coin can be used as a flat screwdriver since his knife only has a Phillips? :) Maybe he uses the twine to tie onto his finger so he won't forget his silver coin? ;)

Quite right about the phillips driver. I caught that too. But the knife (even though its a mid-twentieth century model) does anyone know of such a model? I really liked it.

Yeah, I know of such a model, but it is a Sheffield knockoff made in China....

Most of the Wenger's I've seen have the Cork screwdriver as standard but ocassionally there are some models which have tis tool blade replaced with a back mounted Philips screwdriver instead. Comes to mind in the Classic range models 11 (Scout 11), 18, 51. The 54mm Victorinox Tinker equals this in function.

In the old days sailors wore gold rings in their ears so if the were drowned at sea and they washed ashore, the gold would pay for a Christian burial. Later, ships officers and petty officers instead of ear rings, (since they were higher up the ladder they moved in a more polite society) always carried a large silver coin for the same reason. An old sailors tradition.

I've seen that episode of the Holmes series with Brett as Holmes. Very well done and more to the original writings of Sir Arthur.

Fantastic Jackknife! I had no idea about the silver coin and I never knew that about the gold earring. Thanks!
