Backpack help

I'm looking into getting a new backpack and will be attending college next year. I will be carrying most likely a 15.6 inch laptop on me in addition to some books and gear. Currently I'm looking at the 5.11 Rush 12/24 and The North Face Surge II. I do like the fact the TNF has a padded laptop sleeve where as the 5.11's are not padded. I'm not sure if the tactical look of the 5.11's will be a bit too much for carrying around school. I'm open to any suggestions in terms of packs.
 
I know it's not tactical, or very sexy, but I've had a Jansport for years that has held up ridiculously well. Now that I'm not in school, it carries a full set of skateboarding pads, helmet, tools and spare parts and is still going strong.
 
I wouldn't hesitate to buy the North Face. Good color choices, good materials, good build quality... And no one's going to mistake you for a Basic Training runaway. :D
Check out the North Face Router pack. That might be my current favorite because of the organizational pockets.

I'm also a huge fan of Gregory packs, if they have any styles that suit you with a padded laptop compartment. Ditto REI-brand packs.
