Well, I've thinking about buying a backpack. I looked up the model that looks like what I need.

I found that there are measurements related to short- medium- and long- torso.

How do I make those measurements?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Mike

Yoy need to try on your pack to make sure it fits. If the pack is to short, it will not matter how good the suspension system is, you will hate it.

So, probably best not to buy sight-unseen on the Net eh? Cool deal.

Thanks,
Mike

It might be o.k. to order over the net. i myself will be doing this, but I'm not sure when.

Anyways, what you need is a GOOD dealer. Brad at www.lightfighter.com, or Dan and Carol at www.gogetemgear.com are 2 of the best. Dan, by the way, is that Javahead character. I know of you send them detailed questions, they'll be able to help you. If a pack doesn't fit right, send it back and exchange. Another thing you can do is order 2 and send back the one that fits the worst. Just some options for you. I'm sure that after talkign with Dan and Carol, or Brad, your confidence in net buying will be bolstered.

Well, I think you should get a proper fitting by a professional who can totally fit the pack to your body. The harness has to be fit so it will carry the weight properly with so much weight on your hips and the belt needs to be correct. Stays may have to be shaped so it will carry comfortably. Some packs have everything interchangable for all body types. You really need to be there for that. If there is any way at all you can do this in person at a knowledgable shop then do so. You will get many happy miles out of a good pack so don't cut any corners or try to save ten bucks.

The last pack I bought I had to try four different brands before one said......Yeah! A good pack will make a heavy load seem much lighter.

Boynhisdog is correct. Go to a top quality outdoor gear shop. Besides your boots, your backpack is the next important piece of gear that can make or break a trip.
