Backpackers: how do you carry your fixed blade and psk?

I've got a few backpacking trips coming up soon. And I'm trying to think of the best way to carry a knife an ultrasmall psk, in a comfortable, friendly, non-invasive way.

A friend and I are having a lightweight challenge, but knife and psk are excluded! But I want to think through a way to carry these items. I like some of the Baldrics that I've seen, but they seem like they'd dangle around a lot.

I want to be able to put my pack down, and take this with me.

I also wear a lot of outdoor pants that have small thin built in belts, so personal belt carry and pocket carry is out it seems. And a lot of the drop leg attachments seem bulky.

My knife will be an average size, F1 or a Krein Bushcraft.

Thoughts?

What I do, since I don't have a dangler sheath, is use a carabiner, and attach that to the belt loop of the sheath, and a belt loop on my pants. You can do this even if your pants don't have a belt, and you might think it would swing around alot, I did, but I never even noticed it.
You can see the blue carabiner I used in this pic:

I just throw my PSK in an outside pocket of my pack, so not sure how to help you there. You could put it on it's own belt worn over your pants, like a western style gun belt, if that makes sense. You could also put your knife on your "gun belt" as well.
Kinda like this, you can use any belt, just put it on over your pants, they don't need belt loops.

This always workes for me. When you are hiking people on the trail don't see the knife too much.

You can see it on my left side... Was real easy to use and put away this way.

I use a baldric style carry for medium size fixed blades. My go-to knife is an RC-3. I use a nylon belt with a quick release buckle. The knife rides under my left arm and does not interfere with my pack. Otherwise I use a neck knife set-up with either a Mora or my Izula.

Baldric works.
Put it inside your shirt if you want to make it less bouncy.

Of course the snazzy, more concealed, retail version of that concept is the Merc-Harness (which is a nifty idea btw, but works out to a rather stiff price for a bit of paracord and a few rubber washers...but i digress.)

Wear it under so you always have it no matter what. If you have to throw your pack off during a river crossing or it falls over a cliff diring a break, or a bear steals it to because it smells like a picnic basket, you will still have your knife. Keep it simple, any baldric you buy is gonna cost more than paracord and weigh more. If you are indeed backpacking, this weight saving will matter around the 7th mile.

I Just started trying something new on my last backpacing trip and it worked okay for me.

I use a Maxpedition nalgene bottle holder, the pouch holds a small PSK and you can attach a knife I also added another pouch for a camera. I carry this a baldric style. It allows me to have everything I need at hand including water on the trail.

This set up is somewhat floppy and does take some getting used to.

Why do you care what people think? carry what you want. Political correctness rots the brain.

What's that motto? Montani semper liberi -- mountainmen are always free.
Well we're going to let you go free, as in, you ain't welcome here no more.

How do you tie the baldric?

I think it will be uncomfortable if one is not lean and athletic and if the knife is heavy.

I've carried one that way, and it wasn't bad, but, as you say, the knife wasn't heavy, and I'm not, either.

I just tied a piece of cord in a loop that was long enough to make a figure 8 out of, to experiment with it, and put it on like a shoulder holster.

I use a neck carry shealth.
I can use it as neck carry, or if not, I tie the lace on my belt at appropriate belt so it rides as a dangler.
The lenghth of the lace allow to adjust how low the knife dangle.
When in populated areas, I let the dangler sink in my trousers "hand warmer" pocket. I even often do that on the trail so the shealth doesn't dangle too much or doesn't catch branches or get obstrusive.
For large blades I might use a Baldric.
