backpacking tent for tall person

Hey guys

Anyone have a recommendation as to what tents are good for a tall person? I'm 6'5" and have never really found a tent that I can fit in comfortably without it being absurdly huge (like a 4 person tent that is more of a car camping tent than a backpacking tent). Even tents listed as being 80-something inches long tend to curl up towards the walls at the corners making it a rather tight fit. I am thinking about giving a bivy sack a shot but I'd like the flexibility of having another person be able to backpack with me and only bring one tent. I'm also not super worried about weight.

So, anyone tall persons here that can help me out with a few suggestions?

Thanks

jingo

You might look at the "Plus" version of the 2-person REI Quarter Dome.

The Quarter Domes, in general, have good internal headroom and fairly steep walls, so they're roomy for their size. I've got a QD3 for comfort camping with 2 people and a dog. It's not ultralight, but is less than 5 pounds. Airy and comfortable, too.

I think the QD2+ was developed specifically in response to complaints about length for tall people -- could be worth a look.

Eureka used to make an 8x5 "2 person" tent that might work for you - I'm only 6'1", but have had similar problems with nominally 7' long tents.

Smersh is absolutely right!

I have a T2 and it is great for me (one person and a pack) but it would be AWESOME as the plus. I have set one up at REI before and I think it is VERY light for the size.

I would go with that - or if you need a full three season tent - get a 1/2 dome.

Shop the REI garage sales and get a deal.

Hi Jingo, I too am 6'5" tall. Got an Alps Mountaineering Mystique 2 that works great for me. I'm able to keep all my gear inside with me at night with room to spare.

Big Agnes. I have the emerald mountain SL3 and still have a TON of room. They build stuff large and tall. They've been around for some time now and are highly reputed, and seem to get a number of awards. I highly recommend their products in terms of quality and performance. You can google the stuff, but REI has many of their tents and is a fair place to start your search.

i say go to rei or some place with a good selection , with a few in mind , and see if you can set em up , and get in or if they have em set up... i have had to do this ... cause im a big guy and even the longs maybe long but the ridge line is too short so you gotta wiggle in and out of some configurations....

probably also why i went with a hammock nice and long.....

REI Hoodoo 3, I'm 6'5" and there is a little wiggle room length wise. I still end up with my big noggin almost at the tent fly, but it's not bad at all.

FWIW, take a look at the Tarptent line. I believe that the Squall or Moment have a pretty decent length for taller folks.
