How do you carry your Bowie?

I don't have one any more. I had a sweet, US-made Gerber Khyber Bowie with the coffin handle, and only used it once, just to try it out.

I carried it one other time, but it was just too big. In reality, if I was going to carry one, I'd rather have a hatchet, then a smaller folder.

I can see the point though, if it had to be just one knife.

Nice rig, but what do you use your large Bowie for on what appears to be a day hike pack?

I carry everything on the inside of my pack. Exception being a water bottle. Two reasons. 1. In an urban environment I don't want people to see or steal what I have. 2. In the woods, I don't want anything to snag on brush and potentially get lost.

Betwixt my teeth.

Usually on my belt. It's no heavier than a full size revolver and generally more useful...this coming from a revolver kind of guy.

I didn't back pack today, bit I did clear a bit of wood and split some kindling for a fire on a frosty afternoon. I want using a Bowie, but an 18.5" overall seax did the job. 26 oz on the hip. 13" of blade.

Wore the same thing to the office Friday just because:D

I carried my ratweiler on the pack's shoulderstrap using a paracord loop and a belt clip set horizontally. I couldn't find any pictures of the setup on my pack. I used the carry method for trail maintenance or bushwacking the marsh behind my house where there are frequent trees and vines that fall into the path. I usually have a pair of pruners nearby for the trail maintenance days also. Axe and saws go in the back.

Here's all of the hand tools I had with me re-shaping a feature on a mountain bike trail.
