Probably this is a boring topic to most of you, but if you know a link to a previous thread on the theme, that's great, too...

I think I became enough old to justify for myself a quality- "do it everything"-bombproof pack.
It would be used mainly as a hiking pack, an "outdoor EDC", and as an EDC in my one month escape trips (preferably in non urban areas)
I really like the expandability of the pals-system, having plus pouches when needed.

I'm eyeing the TAD fast-pack EDC, the Kifaru Express or Xray.
I'm really struggling with the capacity, though. The TAD is more of a "beefy EDC"-size, the Expess could be extended for a longer trip...
could you share your thoughts on this?
Thanks, Peter

I'd go for the Kifaru, if youre going off trail in the bush youre not going to want all those molle straps getting snagged all the time.

I have one from both. The TAD is good but nowhere near the quality level of the Kifaru. The price reflects that though. If I am just hauling stuff around for the day I use the TAD but when I actually get to go out to the woods I take the Kifaru hands down.

you're really comparing apples and oranges with this one IMO, the TAd look like tgood backpacks, while the Kifaru are amazing packs, that transfer weight to your hips and lumbar where you can carry more.

I would say Kifaru

I have a Kifaru Zulu with all the goodies, last pack I will have to buy ever! Hands down the best pack on the market.

Iv had 2 TAD packs (still got one) and a kafaru pack.

The short answer is get a Kifaru, if you must spend that much.

The TAD packs are good but Iv had problems with the zips popping on both the ones Iv owned.

This happened to both TAD packs in the same place.

the TAD GEAR FAST PACK E.D.C. is $260.00 without a belt and has 1800 cu of room.

the KIFARU X-RAY has 1800 cu of room and is $279 without a belt.

its a difference of $20 for the packs.

the TAD GEAR FAST PACK's belt is $35 and the KIFARU X-RAY's belt is $36 for a basic one and $50 for one all decked out.

i have a KIFARU ZULU,X-RAY and E&E pack and really like them, especially the dock'n lock feature.

for a 3 day pack i would go with BATTLE LAB.it is built tougher and more heavy duty than the kifaru's or any other pack i have ever had including eagle,blackhawk,spec-ops,csm tactical, tactical tailor

thanks for your thoughts, gentlemen.

I think I'll go for the Kifaru X-Ray, or Express.
Battlelab looks convincing, too, but I just couldn't find an online dealer with international shipping...Their Messenger Bag looks as a cool urban pack.

If you can afford it purchase a Kifaru. NOTHING carries like a Kifaru. When I was looking for a hunting pack I purchased 7 different packs trying to avoid the huge price of a kifaru. I ended up returning ALL 7 and purchased a Kifaru and would never think twice. The money I spent on return shipping I could have saved a fortune by doing things right the first time. You have to own one to truely understand how good they are.
