Osprey for the win. Just a matter of its intended purpose and what's right for a person. Vertx has some good stuff too.

Here’s two of my favorites.
Eberlestock Switchblade, 30 liter
Handy size pack with decent pockets. If I had a get home bag, this would be it.
Normally stays in this configuration with small seasonal changes.
Goes with me anytime I go out of town.

Kelty Redwing 50, 50 liter
Mostly used as a suitcase. Been on many a camping trip. Has held up well over the years.

I have an Osprey as my "get home bag," take with me if I am far from home. Or even on the other side of the mountains, especially in winter. I remember when people were stuck on a pass for a full day because of a snowstorm. Or if I have to walk home because bridges are collapsed from the expected eathquake that will eventually hit (though soon, like recent, is very relative when speaking of geological events).

Also good for my overpacked two and three day trips.

20 year old Cambelback Motherlode that is mostly a daily use bag, and I stick some extra weight in along with the dog first aid kit, and his coat when I'm walking my dog in the park.
