Backpocket=Trapper?

Ah, nevermind, found the answer looking up a TonyBose quote

BTW: how do you guys backpocket carry if your wallet isnt there as well?

I do not own one from Tony, but do have one from Mike Zscherny who used Tony's pattern. All I can say is that I slip the knife in my right back pocket (nothing else is in there except a little lint) and I hardly know it is there. It is more comfortable than a regular (4" or 4.25") trapper to me. YMMV.

It is a little shorter than a regular trapper (not really any slimmer) and has a little more curve and again for me that seems to make a difference. Even by itself in my pocket, I don't have a need to move it around, no matter how it rests in there it is quite comfortable sitting or standing.

All Tony said was that anything that went into his backpocket was called so and it usually refers to larger single bladed knives

I've carried some kind of knife in my back pocket for about 45 years. I've never had one take a bend. I started out carrying a cheap texas jack with the stamped side panels removed behind my wallet (so that it would slip through a quick pat down). Back 45 years ago a cop would pat down just about any teenager that they talked to. I traded up to a flat Mercator Kat knife when those became common around 1967. Since I always carried a knife to school I didn't want it to print in my front pocket.

For years I usually carried two knives. A longer knife next to my wallet in my back pocket and a SAK in my front pocket. When Victorinox started making longer locking bladed SAK's I switched to one knife in my back pocket. That has been my standard for around the last 20 years.

BTW, I hate pocket clips. They snag on things and get in the way of reaching into my pocket. I carry a lot of stuff in my pockets.

Bastid, that's a really fine looking Backster you showed there, nice scales!

I carry a Buck 110 in my back pocket, opposite my wallet. No curves, no issues falling out or getting lost. It's a convienent way to carry a large knife for me. It does dull/tarnish the brass bolsters very quickly, but nothing Brasso can't handle.

I've always carried a knife in my back pocket...never had a problem.
Gus, I drool every time I see your Zscherny!
Purty purty...

Gus, how about sending that one down the Little River on a raft, just let me know the release time. I will be sure and catch it before it goes too far.:D

I have a Case medium stockman that I inherited from my Dad. I used to carry it in my back pocket but stopped when I noticed the bone scales had cracked at the pins on both sides. I am very hesitant to carry a knife in my back pocket now. As a side note, if I sent the knife back to Case can they fix it for men and how much would it cost?

It does not quite look the same now as it did when the pic was taken. :D.

The stag looks a little better to me, but the knife is used. (Y'all don't want it trust me.)
Getting back to the point, there is something about the pattern that makes for a very comfortable back pocket carry as opposed to my buck 110 or a standard trapper pattern.

..........ok, so resurrecting an ol' thread.

But it did make me laugh...........how on earth can anyone carry a Trapper or Backpocket, in their back pocket...??!!

I can only put things in my back pocket that bend, so even my wallet is now bent.....Amex and Visa cards - bent 😁

bent..!.jpg;)

Yep, back pockets are for billfolds and handkerchiefs. Front pockets are for knives. And keys, coins, etc.

I quit carrying my wallet in my back pocket, and my backaches went away. I carry my wallet in front left pocket in front of my cell phone. Modern knife clipped to the same pocket, because I'm left handed. Right front pocket is for keys, maybe a smaller traditional that won't make people jump like sometimes happens when I snap my larger modern knife open. Watch pocket has small Swiss Army knife (Wenger Pocket Tool Chest), mini pry bar, and flashlight. I only keep handkerchief or disposable substitute (half sheet of Bounty paper towel) in back pockets. I've never back pocket carried, but I believe those that do usually use their wallet or a full size handkerchief to prop their knife for vertical carry. Good example was the TV series Longmire. Sheriff Longmire carried his old square handled Buck 110 (the writer's personal knife) in his right back pocket to the outside of his handkerchief. I would carry a 110 in a leather sheath, but maybe he back pocket carried so it wouldn't interfere with his Colt 1911 and holster. Good necro thread.

this is a send up of a tv commercial from the 80s.....John Laws was a very popular talkback radio announcer in Sydney....well known for cutting off callers who challenged his opinions.
Back pockets and trousers in general probably used to be a lot more roomy...which is why i thought of this......it predates this thread too which is sayin somethin
