Backspike or Backblade?

Here's what I mean. If you were going to have a "spiked" tomahawk made for you, would you choose to have it be an actual spike (be it round, triangular, squarish, or some other shape), or more of a blade (like the stuff put out by American Tomahawk Co.)? Why would you choose one over the other?

Reason I'm asking is because many years ago, when I first put in my order with Two Hawks (God rest his soul), he talked to me of designing a hawk with a diamond carbide triangular backspike. This to me seems like one hell of an idea if you can get a smith to, well, smith it. What better to make a spike out of than one of the hardest materials we know how to make?

If you designed the above spike with 1 edge of the triangle facing down, you could probably thin it some and even sharpen it for ease in retraction/tearing.

So, thoughts/opinions?

Hmm... didn't think about that. Wonder why TwoHawks was going to use it? hmm...

Anyway, the original questions still stands: do you prefer a backspike or backblade, and why?

As far as making a spike hawk hawk to my own preferences, I did. I started my own hawk company based on that design. I chose a spike with a stylized triangular shape for strength and maximum overall edge.

I like the harder steels, Cliff is right though, the diamond carbide is/would be too brittle.

P.S. I just saw that you joined the Army. Thank you for you decision and your patriotism. These typed words cannot convey my heartfelt thanks.
