Backsquare Problem?

Seeking advice. I picked up an old Kutmaster and the small blade is not flush with the spring in the open position, as you hopefully can see. The edge of the backsquare seems to not be straight, but slightly angled. If I carefully file the backsquare edge to be straight, will that make the blade and spring flush in the open position? Thanks.

I would remove some of the backsquare. Depending on the hardness of the blade this might require a diamond file, or perhaps the edge of a sharpening hone would work if it's squared. If performing this procedure only take off a little steel at a time and test the results. Sometimes removing just a little steel can produce a big result.

Thank you for the advice. I will give it a shot, trying to remember that I can always take off a bit more, but I can't put any back on.
