Here's a presale announcement; the Backwards Blades are coming soon. When the original backwards blade appeared, a juxaposition of an historic design, the edge was on the curved side and the handle point faced in. I reviewed it, and Jake bought the sample, the one with the elegant carved wooden scabbard. These have plain scabards. They are coming soon, and will be very attractively priced.
Just a time delayed legacy from the crazy Kamis. Yangdu has inherited the hair pulling frustration of Kamis in their own stubborn world. Kind of funny really. Anyway, as Bill would say, stay tuned if you're interested. I think there's about five of them.

Thank you for forwarding this Backwards news. I look forward to more Backwards. I hope I am not being too forward, or backwards. Ahh, nuts.

Yangdu will show with picts when she's ready. The backwards blades represent a 'deal' for those of us not worried about historical accuracy, or a strange protrusion on the handle. Why hasn't she posted this before? I'm not sure. They were left in Nepal for awhile; I mean, must have been discouraging, for not only the prototype, but the Kamis made a handful at the same time. So, they sat, and now they're here.

So the only problem is the handle really? Blade is still good? is the handle tapered tang or full tang?

The edge is on the wrong side. The edge should be on the flat side rather then the slightly curved side.

I would be interested in picking one of them up just to see how they would handle. But I seem to be broke at the time.

Yeah I get you but the edge would still be hardened and the back would be softer etc wouldn't it? I probably haven't explained myself well i've been up since yesterday. What I want to ask is want tang is it?

Yes, the edge will be hard with the back being solfer.

Dunno what the tang has to do with it. Basicly the handle is correct, however the edge is on the wrong side of the blade. The blade should look like a large wharncliffe basicly.

I just edited my post having seen Magnum22 's link.

At first I didn't understand the description but now, with pics.....

A little slow today I guess.

Thanks

the simple way to phrase this would be...

the blade should be a wharncliffe, not a drop point to be a valid historical type blade. in the krazy-kami drop point mode, it's an entirely different beast and only WE know ;)

the handle would be best in the wharncliffe (correct) gunununtungung fashion, but seems okay in the drop point configuration.

It's not a chiruwa, it's most likely just pinned like the kukris. However since I have not been able to find a picture of the bottom of the handle it could also be a stick tang.

i don't see a buttplate there at all, nor a pin in evidence? i'm guessing it's glued on? mmm. there's gotta be SOMETHING. munk? you've handled this, so to speak, where's the pin?

see the url above a bit that has tons of pics overall or this

no pin so to speak of this particular blade, guys. I think it's on there plenty good, though. Actually, i was goofing around with mine and dropped it on the hard concrete handle first. Did nothing to the blade, but i managed to royally goof up the little horn thing sticking out:foot: Totally, totally my fault. However, i did take the horn off and sanded the spot down. Worked like a champ:) However, the handle is still just too square for my liking. not a big deal at all really, but i think my next big project is going to be rehandling this blade. The one tha came with it is wonderful! However between it being on backwards and being dropped (mr. butterfingers) and being too square, this is going to get a heavy mod when i get the time/bravery to tackle it;)
A great blade for anyone interested in the HI oddities as well as those who would like a mod job:) i mean the steel on this one is fantastic. a really great blade, and i'm glad to have it in my collection:)

Jake

Jake, are you just going to further modify the handle or get an entirely new material? Seems like you'd have enough to work with, round it off, and still leave most of the scroll work.
