Well, I took a deep breath, relaxed, counted to 10, said a prayer, and slowly began doing some very minor bushcrafty things with my new Backwoods blade (I've nicknamed the "RPG"....Rockin' Pistol Grip). I will openly admit that I am not a skilled "bushcraft" kind of guy at all, nor did I have this particular design created specifically for bushcrafting tasks. But, I did want to see how it performed, so I gathered up a bunch of sticks and limbs and started.....gulp.....abusing the knife...:D

It performed amazingly!!! It cut, sliced, shaved, and flat out kicked ass!! I was beyond impressed with Bill's talent of putting an edge on this blade, and the edge did great in the woods today. You wouldn't believe the sparks that flew off my FireSteel from the spine of the blade:eek: I believe sparks flew down the road to my neighbor's house and landed on their front porch...:D

Even though the tasks I performed today weren't extensive and may seem petty, it sure did bring a huge smile to my face and gave me the confidence to actually use a Backwoods blade in the woods. After my initial abuse, I cleaned the blade and stropped it a few times. It still shaves hairs like when I brought it home:thumbup:. Bill, thank you so much for bringing this one to life. Your craftsmanship and talent are phenomenal:thumbup:

I stongly urge all of you, that own some of Bill's blades, to follow my lead and get in the woods and slowly attempt to actually touch the blade to some sticks, branches, or limbs. It will be painful at first, but take a deep breath, say a prayer, and git to abusing 'em...:p

The following pics may be painful to view, so please take this cautionary warning:D

Nice bro, i love to see stuff like that , was it comfy in the hand while you were doing your testing? Oh, did the wife like that wood lol!! REDWOOD HANDLE THAT IS

Bill,

My wife thought the Redwood was really pretty and she said the handle reminded her of granite with a marbled pattern. She asked if I ever planned on using it in the woods. I plan on showing her the other wood later this evening...from some of my other blades of course;)

The handle was super comfy and fit like a dang glove. No rubs or hot spots at all

RW, when I finally had enough Geritol & Ginkoba in me to finally kick in, I took some old hickory that I had lying around and made some fuzz sticks just to say I actually got some shavings and dust in the cracks and creases. But I have to admit, those damn shaving curls on that stick were thinner than fly wings on a dragon fly sitting on a cattail . . . . . I swear you could damn near read thru them . . . .
The term "scary sharp" comes to mind for some reason (maybe the Ginkoba is finally working) . . . . .
Hopefully when the next one shows up with all that "marble style wood" scales and that "shiny satin steel" scary sharp gleaming blade, it won't be so hard to whack a few limbs here and there . . . . . :(
Be safe.

Wow that looks nice! That handle is insane, great looking knife. Cool pics!

Daniel,

Thank you sir for the kind comments. I truly appreciate that my friend!

JUST1MOR,

To be honest, it was really tough even taking this blade outside, let alone using it in the woods. I have several "bushcraft" style blades that do very well at making feather/fuzz sticks (although I'm not that great at making them), but I really wanted to see what this knife was capable of doing in the "fuzz stick" category if needed. To be honest, I was really surprised at how easy this blade created fuzz sticks and how easy it was to shave/sharpen sticks and branches. I will admit that I don't have enough nerve to baton or process wood with it yet...:D

The handle on the RPG is truly unique and that wood is killer! You guys did a heck of a job on that blade! There will be no mistaking that knife! Congrats, bro!
