Hey guys Planning on doing my hardening in my fire pit but winter is almost here and I was wondering if the cold air would cause any problems between the quick transition from fire to heated oil quench. aldos 1084 btw.

Thanks in advance.

Wow 66 views and no answers. haha is this because everyone else is also curious or just that its such a stupid question that no one wants to dignify it with an answer?

that being said I truly am sorry for asking such simple questions on my few threads, Im just very new to this and dont have anyone else to ask.

I plan on firing up the coffee can forge in the next week or so it will most likely be well under 32 degrees.

I think a few degrees (+-40) variation shouldn't matter too much when were talking about a rapid cooling from somewhere near 1400.

I'd just make sure you were not RIGHT on the edge, with 1084 it's possible to cut that mighty close if your quench tank isn't close enough. Knives are thin, lots of surface area relative to volume.... *shrug* Move fast and it shouldn't be an issue at all.
