I see everyone on here are serious knife makers as far as tools and materials and such but where are the backwoods hand tool only knife makers. Or the people who recycle old saw blades and leaf springs, and if your one of these people can you show me your work or direct me to threads similar to what I'm describing. Thank you and again you all make beautiful knives keep up the good work!

Keep reading through the threads. There have been a number of discussions on this subject in the past. Also, read the stickies at the top of the page. I remember seeing a file to knife and a hand tool only thread.

Last summer in Mena, Arkansas I bought a knife from a guy at a roadside stand. It ha a 4 1/2" bowie blade made from an old band saw with a white-tail antler handle. Talked to him for a good while; wish I could remember his name. he told me he wa a retired saw filer from a lumber mill, so he knew a thing or two about steel blades. Gave me a lifetime warranty on the knife. Fit & finish is nowhere near pretty, but to me it is a beautiful knife; one of my most prized. I can't afford one of the gorgeous customs from a famous bladesmith, but I have a feeling thi knife is never going to disappoint me.

This is the first knife I ever made from a disc blade. Built like a tank but the fit and finish is horrible.

most of these were done with just hammer and anvil.

sometimes a power hammer, but most were made in my old front yard.

That was one of my favs, too. It took the head off a javelina in two clean strokes.
