 I have a RAT-7 currently as my outdoor survival blade. It sees a lot of action and chopping. I am trying to make the transition to INFI (An expensive transition) But i have doubts that a 6 inch blade in any steel would be better than my RAT at chopping. I've been trying to get a Camp Tramp as an upgrade for a chopper, but they are so damn expensive and hard to find. So if anyone has any suggestions or even experience with both blades for chopping and heavey use, any advice would be great!

You might be surprised.:D

Woudn't geometry and balance make a bigger difference to chopping than steel type? Steel type and heat treat matter in terms of edge holding and how much impact the blade will take before it fails. Of course, if you chop long enough, the knife with better edge retention will chop better in the end, all other things being equal.

Anyway, here's a thread where both a RAT-7 and various Swamp Rats are used. The Rats are all bigger than a badger, and he doesn't say much about the RAT. Maybe you could get some more info about his field test:

Hey,
I remember seeing a few larger user Busse's on the sale forum recently maybe check em out, also if your not in a hurry there are some nice lookin Swamp rat choppers in the new line uo. If you aren't hung up on Hogs or Rats a 1/4" thick 5160 steel Ranger RD6, 7 or 9 should be considered.
