It works if you coddle it a little. Read Sticky: Search Engine FAQs & Tips in BladeForums.com Service and Support

Read the sticky, I can't really say much more. There's no doubt that the search engine isn't the greatest. But it can get the job done. You can easily overwhelm it with to many requests or too many hits. But if its that common search term, you can probably browse your way to lots of information.

Also, sometimes you can include "bladeforums" in a google search with your other terms and that works pretty well (I don't know if thats in the sticky, I didn't reread the sticky, sorry:rolleyes: ).

I've already read all that, maybe I just need to coddle a little more!:)
When it works, it's great, but more often than not I get "page cannot be displayed".

Well, apparently you did not read it.

If your search returns a browser error along the lines of "The page cannot be displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings", your search may be overloading the server. Try narrowing your search by using more key words or in the Advanced Search, try choosing “Search Titles Only” instead of the default value of “Search Entire Posts” in the advanced search interface.

"Try narrowing your search by using more key words" -- that won't work. I believe I explained that in my post in the sticky thread, didn't I?

Maybe you should edit your post in that thread to avoid confusing people.

...but more often than not I get "page cannot be displayed".

That usually happens when you include the word "knife" in your search criteria. Type in "Randall knife" and you will get a "page cannot be displayed". Run the search for "Randall" and it should work.

Yeah Coug, you're right.

How old are you? 14?

I think he was actually referring the fact that when he said he read it you didn't try to help him but just insulted him. Probably provoked a reaction. you know the internet. You don't have to be 14 to use those silly icons.

exactly, thank-you.

-and thanks to those for helping, I'm slowly getting better at it.

Oh well, so there was a mistake in the FAQ, the info was still there though - just not in my post, but in Cougar's.

Being nice also means that you should read the FAQ before asking the very same question others have posed a few hundred times before you.

It does not incorporate sending me three expletive-laden emails while calling me "sir" on the forums. By the way, please don't bother replying to the single mail I sent back, I don't want to see my inbox stuffed with your spam.

Also, choosing meaningful thread titles is another aspect of very basic courtesy towards others.
