i received my first benchmade for christmas a few days ago. a 520 presidio, beautiful knife-BUT! it has side to side play, a burr where the axis lock connects to the heal when closing, causing drag. it also has what appears to be a machining error on the pivot part of the blade. it has a visible little divot in the steel causing the blade to sometimes stop when trying to close. when pivoting the blade slowly by hand you can easily feel these drag points especially on the heal. any advice would be helpful! guess i'll send it back.
anyone else had these problems? thanks!!

I have never heard of this particular issue with a Benchmade, but anything can happen. Benchmade has amongst the best customer service, contact them and send it to them and they will make it right. You can also contact your dealer and see if they will make an exchange. Either way that is not the norm for Benchmade quality.

Write a note explaining the problems, box it up and send it back to Benchmade. My guess is they'll send you a new knife - Sounds like your Presidio shouldn't have made it past quality control. (btw, they ask for an original bill of sale but I've sent a couple of knives in without the receipt and they fixed them with no problem)

This title is the biggest oxymoron I have ever came across. Definitely let them know and I'm sure you'll get a new knife or they will fix that one

Even top companies such as Benchmade have one that slips through very occasionally.

As the others have said, box up the knife & send it to Benchmade with a brief note.
They'll take care of it.

Dude, Sorry to hear about the issues with your presidio. Especially since you received it as a Christmas present. Play with it for a few days until the newness wears off then send it to Benchmade so they can give it the once over twice. They will make it right to your satisfaction.

Happy New Year!

Send it back I'm sure they will take care of it. I've never had problems with their CS.

It happens from time to time. One sneaks past QC. I didn't know Benchmade wanted the original bill of sale  Do they warranty the knife or the original buyer? I'd tell them in the note you received it as a gift and you don't have the BOS.

thanks for all the response! i know benchmade is a quality company, just got a lemon i suppose. i'll send it back next week.
thanks again for all the help!!!

BM has never asked me for a bill of sale! I'd say, start with the place you bought it. THEY are the ones that owe you. That's taking nothing from Benchmade, mind you, they'll fix you up as everyone has attested to, but the seller should have first dibs.

Sorry to hear about your knife---I'm sure that Benchmade will remedy the problem, though. Their customer service is first-rate.

That sucks. It kinda makes me wonder of that knife was really "new."
Send it into BM then will take care of everything.

Do not even worry. Send it in with a note. I sent in a benchmade that I cut through an extension cord like a dummy, and the sparks flew! :D Well there was a huge half moon burned out of the edge. Even with it being my fault, I sent them a note with my information, expecting a charge. But it was returned with a new blade, better than new, with no charge!! You can't get better customer service than that. I am sure that they will fix you up.

Send 'er in.

I've never had them ask for a bill of sale. Is this a recent thing?

Yeah I've never had them do that to me either. I wonder if they do that on long-running models sometimes, where it's possible the knife could be on it's third or fourth owner.

Benchmade has excellent customer service, and will repair anything that's wrong with one of their knives.
