Seaborn scum in a Navy brig, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. Well done sailors, now swing the scurvy swabs from a yard arm. Alas, politicians and lawyers will probably take your fine job and muck it up, but old Thumbcutter's right proud of ye anyway.

In the air, on the land, or on the sea, America's warriors are out there keeping us free. Keep them in your thought's and prayers.

I love reading about that. Pity that modern ships have no yardarms for hanging. I am not ususally in favor of the death penalty, but I would say that pirates are not human enough to count.

When Caius Julius Caesar was a young man, he was siezed by pirates and held for ransom. While the ransom was being raised, he cheerfully told the pirates that he would, upon release, come back and crucify each and every one of them. They made the mistake of not taking him seriously, for they released him and he came back with a century of troops and did exactly what he had said that he would do.

will act as a deterant for any that consider it a profitable career in the future.
Hang the bastards!

All modern warships still have yardarms. We run signal flags and pennants upon them, they will easily permit the hanging of a man should the occassion warrant.

It would also be a simple matter to tie them off to a portable davit on the main deck, swing it outboard, and push the offender overboard with a noose about his neck and not enough line to make it to the water. Most modern warships almost uniformally have at least 20-30 feet of freeboard.

So it isn't the ability to carry out the traditional punishment that has changed, it is the will to implement it that has.

Welcome to the Cantina/Psycho Ward Boats!!!! :D

It may not be the will to implement it that has changed as much as today's laws have to prevent such things.
I'll bet some Captains would love to hang some of those bastards.;) :D
It's too bad that the laws of the High Seas of yore when the word of the Captain was LAW still don't prevail in some ways but then I personally wouldn't want to sail under a 17th century Captain either. ;)

Heard from a mutual friend (Navy Aviator) this past Sat night that a good pal of mine (ours) is eyebrow deep in that right now. Flying choppers & dropping off SEALs- and it's not just one boat they've popped. If you knew what a whackjob this guy was, you'd feel sorry for the pirates (not!)
SIC 'EM BOYS!

Sweet thread. Seems like good training for our SEALs too. I just hope we don't loose many of them on this duty. I'd rather see them focused on Iran.

Edited.
